Fitz's POV

He spread his mind to his Cognate's, and called out to Tam telepathically. Can you hear me?

Tam nodded, and tersely confirmed.

Sophie's mind was silent, nothing reaching out to him, or a sign that she could hear anything. Breaking the rules about telepathy, he spread his ability deep into her consciousness, and past a blockage to receive her thoughts. He tugged Tam closer, and the silver-eyed boy, moved his shadows closely, ready to brace for anything.

Deeper and deeper they went, the blueprint of Sophie's brain all around them. Whoa, is this is how silent it is? Tam asked.

No. It's unusual for her to be quiet. Most times, it's bursting with thoughts. With a bad feeling in his stomach, he continued, knowing that they couldn't go back without achieving nothing. Her brain clicked and whirred, like one of Dex's unfixed contraptions. The air was murky, and was low on visibility, like a disease was spreading throughout the atmosphere. See all of this. Fitz waved through the darkened mess turning to Tam. This is probably Fintan. He clenched his fists, feeling the anger coarse through his blood.

Tam, feeling the air around them, his mind raced. These are shadows, but I can tell that these aren't hers. Reaching his hand out, as if feeling it, he transmitted. Your right, these are his.

Fintan's shadows grew darker every second, overpowering her mind before it was too late. Over the horizon, there was a light, getting brighter every second.

What is that? Tam asked, genuinely curious. He moved closer to the light to the darkness. Come on. He waved Fitz over and started to run to it.

Fitz's instincts took in and followed, keeping his pace steady. Closer and closer they went, each step seeing more clarity in the atmosphere. There's people there. He announced, now sprinting, hoping that this was Sophie fighting the control.

The silhouette of a familiar body, outlined the darkness. Who is it? He asked Tam, not waiting for an answer as he realized who it was. It was her. It was his Cognate, Sophie, only a few years older.

The pieces finally started to fit together. We couldn't hear her thoughts because she's not doing anything. Instead, she's showing us a-

Memory, Tam finished for him. She's replaying something from her mind, though I can tell that this isn't from her real life. This is a hallucination, its something that she. . . Dreamed.

This is a dream? Fitz questioned, bewildered. But the more he thought about, and the more the air cleared up around them, it started to make sense.

Is this her way of telling us something? Tam transmitted.

The teal eyed boy thought for a second and replied. The only thing that makes sense is to watch. He looked up and thought about Keefe. It would be hard for Keefe to forgive him if they did this without him so he added, Keefe has to come. He'll have to monitor Sophie's emotions from here. At Tam's scowl he added. It'll be easier for him.

After a brief talk with Keefe with a lot of "How could you leave me outs" and "I'm the head of the Foster Fan Club" he agreed at once, and slipped into her consciousness.

Appearing next to Fitz, with a twirl of wind leaving him as he was in her mind. Wow! Look at all of this. Pointing to the memory replaying in front of them, not really paying attention to the scene. I get why Fitzy here, would always talk to her this way. He clapped Fitz on the back, and he turned red. It's so cool!

Well, the only reason your here is to watch. So shut your mouth and listen. Tam said, killing the light in Keefe's eyes. Keefe shut his mouth, itching to speak the words he wanted to say, but shut his mouth as the dream unfolded.
