PART ONE
- life's a losing game if you don't play.

High school sucks. That's just life I guess. But sometimes it sucks a little less. That is, when you have friends and everyone loves you. You know, when you're popular like Eugene or Rapunzel. But that's not me. I'm just an outcast longing for a nice high school experience.

"She's so pretty," I whispered over to my friends. Lady rolled her eyes.

"Cassie, you can do so much better. She's just another fake barbie." Lady remarked, not looking up from her phone.

"I agree. Plus, she's dating Rider." Stalyan added. I sighed.

"Come on guys. I know you don't like pops but she's different. She's really sweet," I smiled. "It's not like we could ever date or anything. You know, since I work for her dad and all." Stalyan slumped her shoulders. "You really know how to make me feel bad, huh?"

"We're not trying to make you feel bad, we just don't want you to get hurt." Lady remarked.

"Whatever. None of it really matters. Like I said, I work for her dad, we couldn't ever date." I sighed.

"I know what'll make you feel better, Cass.  Let's go out tonight! We can have fun and you will forget Rapunzel." Stalyan smiled.

"As fun as that sounds I need to work tonight," I frowned. "But if you and Lady go out tonight come and see me, okay?"

Stalyan smiled as the bell rang. "Sure. See you tonight, okay?"

"See ya." I smiled.

The rest of the day went pretty slow. I went to Chemistry, I went to History, and then I went to work. As I got into my work uniform, a weird feeling rushed over me. Usually, each day felt so repetitive. But today, the energy was just... different. I simply brushed over it and got out on to the floor.

"Welcome to Fred's Kingdom, My name is Cass and I'll be your server this afternoon. what can I get everyone started to drink today?" I asked, smiling. I was a little nervous, because I knew these guys were from my school. I didn't think much of it, I just took their drink orders and moved on. But then I got to her.

It was Rapunzel. Queen Bee of North Corona High. And, My crush since Freshman year. However, she radiated a much different energy than the rest of her friends. She was warm, kind, soft.

"I'll have an iced tea, please." She requested, smiling warmly. I returned the smile.

"Of course. I'll be right back for that with you guys." I announced before whisking away. I quickly ran to another table, where Stalyan and Lady were sitting.

"Guys, It's bad."

Lady sighed, setting her phone on the table, clearly not wanting to put up with me. "What is it?"

"Rapunzel is over at that other table and I'm her server."

Lady rolled her eyes. "Okay? And? Is there something important about that?"

"She now knows I exist! If I mess anything up, it could ruin everything!"

"Well what are we supposed to do about it?"

"I don't know! You two are my friends, shouldn't one of you have some type of advice?!?"

"Cass, it can't be that bad. Just go do your job. Everything will be fine." Stalyan chimed in.

"I don't know, maybe I should just let them get a new server."

"Yeah, we wouldn't want you ruining what little you have, right?" Lady remarked.

That struck a nerve with me. These two were supposed to be my friends. But Lady constantly puts me down and Stalyan just stands by to watch?

"You know what? No. I'm tired of you two treating me like shit because you're too desperate for other friends. I don't exist to keep you company. I'm just going to go and do my job. I'll make sure you get a good server." I growled.

"Cassie, wait-" Stalyan called out. But it was too late. I had already began to walk away. I quickly made the group's drinks. I barely remember what happened, my mind was too clouded with anger. But I had a job to do. So I pulled myself together and brought their drinks out.

"Hey, sorry for the wait," I muttered, passing out the drinks. "I had a little incident with another customer who needed me to do-"

I was cut off by the sound of splashing liquids. I spilled tea on Rapunzel.

"Oh fuck."

also- the name lady refers to lady caine. i didn't just make up a character for this story lmao

also also- the reason i chose the name fever dream is because the song fever dream by mxmtoon is partially what motivated me to write this so i definitely recommend checking it out! :))
