THE Labyrinth cared for Livia. That is why it showed her the right path, why it worried when it noticed her tear-stained cheeks. The Labyrinth had—although neither Asterion nor Livia had ever noticed— kept the siblings alive, bringing them food and conveniently placing a stream near the Minotaur's room. It always made sure that anyone who wanted to hurt them got lost, but it would be harder this time.
Like in other years, fourteen people entered the Labyrinth. Unlike the other years, one of the young men had tied a string to one of the Labyrinth's doors, unraveling the ball of string he held as he walked. The Labyrinth would have to try exceptionally hard this year. The man was getting nowhere near the children.
LIVIA held her breath as she looked at the so called "hero". He left a trail of white string as he walked throughout the Labyrinth. So that he can find his way out, Livia thought, clever.
Livia frowned to herself. Only Daedalus knew the Labyrinth's secrets, and he didn't seem one to provide random strangers with such secrets. Unless...
Livia mentally groaned.
Unless it was Ariadne who had asked for his help. Daedalus had always had a soft spot for her.
This meant that the Labyrinth was powerless against the prince. It meant that Livia had to take matters into her own hands.
Slowly, she creeped over to Theseus. She would have to kill him. It was his life or her brother's. Livia could not, would not lose Asterion.
But did she have to kill? She had always looked down upon her father's behaviour, how he truly believed that killing was always the answer. She had always hated how no one ever disagreed with him, how everyone followed his orders simply because he was the oh so great King Minos. No, she would not following father's foot steps. She would have to find another way.
They would have to run away.
