CHAPTER TWO - Light Me A Cigarette

Ducky and Marty walked into the bathroom, a few girls were there, fixing their makeup for the rest of school. They took one look at her and all went quiet. She stared at the girls and raised an eyebrow and they all left before Ducky could say anything.

She got her makeup bag out of her bag and got to work on Marty's face.

"Ducky, what happened between you and Nicky?" Marty asked her friend, she had waited until she had got her alone, maybe then she would spill the beans.

"Nothing. He broke up with me, that's all." She replied as she dropped the mascara in the sink, totally off put by the question.

"I just don't get it. " She rambled on and Ducky nodded. She didn't understand it either, they were doing great, planning life after school and everything had been perfect. Suddenly, one day he broke up with her and left her alone.

The bell rang for class to begin and the girls rushed out of the bathroom and headed their separate ways. School was a drag, to say the least. She had English literature at the end of the day and Danny Zuko had sat right beside her. She rolled her eyes as he sat down.

"Zuko, move." She said without lifting her head to meet his stare. He laughed at her attempt to act intimidating.

"Ducks, you don't get away that easy. You coming to the rally next Saturday? I heard the girls are going and wanted to formally invite you." He said and she finally raised her head to look him in the eye.

"I don't know, Zuko. I can't be arsed being in the same room with Kenickie." She replied, she really had no intention of being near her ex boyfriend, she was still very upset about the two of them ending but she had to get over him at some point so many a night out would be good for her.

"Come on, for old times sake." He patted her back and she softly smiled. She nodded and in class, they whispered and helped each other out, although it wasn't Ducky that needed help half the time.

The week had went smoothly to say the least, she had settled back into classes and school life, she would see Kenickie at school but she would quickly turn away without sparing a second glance at him- it was hard. Very hard.

It was the evening of the Rally, they were huddled up with Rizzo, Marty and Jan, while Sandy was with the cheerleaders on the stage. It was good that Sandy was trying to get out her comfort zone, she thought to herself.

"Who's the best? Rydell! Give them hell, Rydell! I just wanna tell you students that we have a banner year coming up, a banner year. Because my boys are primed. I mean really primed because I primed them. I mean, they're not only primed, they're honed.

Honed to a sharp razor-edge. And we're not just going out there to win, we're going out there for glory. When we get out there, we're gonna yank them and tear them and rip them! We're gonna take them and roll them around and rip them up to pieces!

And then we're gonna slaughter them. And after the slaughter is over, we're gonna come back here and ring that victory bell. Like we always wanted to." Coach Calhoun ranted and raved about his team sport and spirit this year. Ducky wasn't really listening, she was far too busy thinking.

She, soon, was brought out of her daydream when Frenchy nudged her. Apparently, Rizzo was up to something, as usual but she wasn't going to start complaining.
