▫️Thyme▫️

Today is the second day of training. When I told my mother that we were allies with District 1, she just gives me a quizzical look, but doesn't say anything.

"Mark!" My sister called to the boy tribute from District 1, now also our ally.

He returned her greeting with a bright smile. And a hug.

I look around for Perla, and found her at the bow and arrow station. I went over to her.

"Hey" I could tell I scared her a little, as she jumped in surprise.

"Oh, it's you, Thyme! Where's Willow? I think she can help in upgrading my bow and arrow skills." She said, laughing. She paused suddenly, mid-laugh, then start again. "Maybe I should leave them alone."

I peered through the tributes and found Willow. Mark has his hands around her shoulders, whispering something in her ear as she gripped the knife. He let's go and steps backwards, his eyes trained on Willow's face. She throws the knife and it ends up right in the middle part of the target. Bull's eye. A smile played on Mark's lips as he congratulated her.

We are training with weapons we are good at, despite mother's instructions. But she doesn't have to know. I let that thought drift away, and go back to watching Willow.

Suddenly, I felt a pang of sorrow. One of us won't be making it out of the arena. Who will it be? I must have been lost in thought for quite some time, but I jerk back to reality as a soft hand lands on my shoulder. Perla.

"Want to go over to them?" She asks.

"Yeah, sure. Let's go." I respond, taking her hand and running towards Willow and Mark.

"Okay" I hear Mark say as we reach them.

"Okay what?" Perla asks, reaching for a knife. I do the same.

"We were just going to the archery station. Wanna join us?" Willow replies, not knowing we had spent our time there while they had been in the knife station.

"No, thanks. We've just been there." I say, although I didn't do any archery work at all. I make up for it by throwing the knives. I'm pretty good at it.

"Off we go then, Willow!" He slung his arm around her shoulder and guides her to the station.

"Be ready for lunch in time, yeah, you two!" I call out as they disappear.

I practice knife throwing until lunch time, occasionally showing Perla a trick or two.
