I quickly get ready, throwing a white sundress over my one piece swimsuit. The dress falls short on me, but it's cute nonetheless. I grab my phone and beach bag, as I'm heading out the door I text my neighbor.
Rose: Hey meet you at ur house better be ready
Abby: Yeah yeah
Abby is what you would call my best friend, I guess, we've know each other sense elementary school. Although we weren't always friends. She is one of the better people in my hellish town. I see Abby standing out on her driveway and give her a small wave. Abby smiles, she has the brightest and biggest smile. She could easily be called beautiful by anyone, the typical beauty as my mom would call it. Blonde, tan, blue eyes, fit. Abby runs up to me and gives me a huge hug, squeezing the air from me. She says in her cheerful voice,
"I saw you from a mile away, you're so pale you shine like a light house in the sun!"
I roll my eyes and laugh,
"Well considering we don't even live a mile away that's impressive, but I swear imma get the best tan this summer. Just wait!"
Abby lets me go and we start walking to the beach.
"Can you even tan Rose?"
I catch the smirk on her face and reply with some sass,
"Of course I can. I was really tan as a kid, you know."
Abby giggles,
"Well that's when you actually went out in the sun."
"Hey, it's not my fault that tanning is boring!"
"Well it is that you sleep all day, usually the sun is barely up when you wake up."
She got me there. She gives me a smirk at her little defeat, my embarrassment written all over my face. We both laugh obnoxiously. Abby starts to run and yells to me,
"Come on Rose the water looks so pretty!"
I smile and try to catch up to her, she's right. The water looks breathtaking with the sun glistening off of it. Not many people are here sense it is later in the day, except for some rich kids by the boats. I recognize the group of four. They are usually here earlier in the day, talking to other rich people that keep their boats here and pretty girls. I don't know much about them, but I know they're just a bunch of players. I roll my eyes at them as they all turn to look at Abby running to the shores. She has a white bikini on that really shows off her body, although she doesn't have much curves she is pretty hard not to look at. Still, it's frustrating when people sexualize your best friend. I drop my bag on the sand and take off my sun dress once the boys look away from us. I hear my phone buzz, but Abby calls for me to come into the water again. I decide to leave it. I start to tip toe my way in. Abby yells,
"Just jump in, it'll take you five hours if you go at that pace! It's not even that cold."
I roll my eyes,
"Okay miss bossy, and it's kinda cold!"
"Not once you get it"
I start to run over to a dock to jump off of it as Abby swims that way. I notice one of the boys from before staring at me. He has messy light brown hair and is almost as tan as Abby. I feel my face getting red, I hate it when boys look at me, especially when they're cute. It makes me so nervous, I just know it shows all over my face too. I try to just ignore it though and not become a clumsy mess. The dock rocks as I run down it and cannonball into the water. The water hugs my frail body as I sink to the bottom. Abby was right, it's much warmer once you get in. I love the muffled sound underwater and the feeling of being consumed by it, I want to stay here forever. With a unwanted push back up to the surface for more air I can hear clearly once again. Abby swims over to me with a knowing smirk,
"I could see your blush from a mile away, tomato face!"
I splash her with water,
"Shut up!"
So I guess it was obvious after all. The curse of having absolutely no poker face. Abby points behind me and teases,
"Look Rose, the hotties are leaving! You should go chase after them."
I turn to see what looks like a very expensive boat with the four boys on it. I splash Abby again and we both laugh. After a hour we find ourselves swimming back to shore. I run to my bag for a towel. Abby scoffs,
"You know natural selection would take you out so fast, how are you even cold?!"
I push her playfully,
"Oh shush, I'd make it longer then you!"
"No way, have you seen your muscles, or more like lack of."
I smirk,
"I've legit seen you try to open a can with a spoon!"
Abby burst into laughter and I join her. I reach for my phone, there's a text from Sam...
