I looked around at the many beautiful and porcelain figures around me. They were the perfect looking family. Perfect enough for magazine covers. I remembered when I flung the big one with brownish hair and I wondered how I did that. I went up to him and that's when I realized how tall he was. Maybe six-three. I looked up at him and he met my eye and I looked away.

"I'm sorry I flung you across the room," I said quietly as I kicked my toes on the rug. He laughed and bent over to catch my gaze.

"Don't worry about it, honestly," he says with a light chuckle. I was so confused as to why they were all so nice to me. As far as I knew, every other vampire within a 5,000 mile radius wants me for my power. I can shape-shift to be any animal I wish. Maybe this family didn't know that. I had to decide whether or not I was going to tell them. Just being here put all of their lives in danger. I needed to tell them. They saved me by not giving me back to Gabriel.

"There's something I need to tell you," I announced. "All of you." The boy Edward came back in the room with a bemused expression. I took a deep breath and finally said it, "I'm a shapeshifter." There was a silent pause. Edward nodded his head and so did Alice but Esme seemed surprised as she looked me over.

"So you can change form?" She said as clarification.

"I can change into any animal I wish to become," I explained with a sigh. "From something as small as a fruit fly to as large as a humpback whale." They seemed to soak it in for a second before Emmett came and swung me over his shoulder. I screamed but I wasn't really scared. I knew that if they really wanted to hurt me they would have by now. So instead, I laughed.

"Put me down you big giant!" I yell at him.

"Change so you can get out!" he said back. I rolled my eyes and felt myself shrink and slender. I then slithered down the back of his shoulder and twisted around both his legs and squeezed. He laughed and the others clapped. I turned back into a normal vampire and blushed.

"That was so cool!" Emmett said. I just laughed at him before growing somber again.

"It is, but it comes with a deadly price," I say quietly. The others looked at me with concern. "There are other vampires like Gabriel, Katierie, and Brendon," I explain. "And they all want me for my power. My brother was a vampire before me and had the same power, when he was killed, his power was transferred to his killer, Joanna's brother."

"And you think that since Jasper killed Joanna, he's going to come after us at the same time that Gabriel and the others are coming after you," Edward clarified. I looked at him shocked. He took the words right out of my head.

"Edward can read minds, Jasper can control emotions, and Alice can see visions of possible futures based on decisions," Esme tells me. "We are all gifted as well, but I do see how yours comes with danger." I nod, though slightly stunned. "I understand it's a lot to take in, but we have plenty of extra rooms and I am sure my husband won't mind you staying." Again, I just nodded. I needed to process everything. To do that, I needed to go hunting. I hate killing humans but killing animals seemed worse to me unless I was their natural predator.
So I turned into a mountain lion and stalked out of the house to cacth my dinner. I heard some snickers behind me but then the really big one ran up behind me. Emmett I think was his name.

"Are you coming back?" he asked me seriously. I tilted my head at him in confusion. "My, uh, wife, you could say, and I have always wanted a kid," he said as he scratched the back of his head nervously. "We would be happy to adopt you if you need a home," he stumbles. "We could protect you, too." I snorted at him through my nose and laughed, a throaty noise. I then dipped my head down as a yes and ran off into the woods. I had a family. I was going to be adopted! I never had a family of my own. Just the orphanage. This day may have started with a death chase but its ending with a family and pure happiness. And a hunt.
