Steve bolted around the corner of the abandoned factory roof, his legs carrying him across the crumbled concrete like high powered pistons. His alert gaze panned left and right, searching for the figure that he'd worked so hard to keep in his line of sight. The armed man he'd been following had slipped away in the darkness, the moon offering little light. He slowed to a halt, catching his breath for a moment as he dropped his head in frustration.
How in the hell had someone managed to out maneuver him, especially running. The area looked void of people for about 5 blocks in both directions. This was an abandoned industrial site, though hard to tell in some areas, over grown with plants, graffiti and building's with caved crumbled roofs or walls. The distance between him and the target was beyond too far to continue chasing. It was time to climb off of the roof and head back empty handed.Steve lifted his head but paused, quieting his breathing in the silence. Multiple figures were perched in the shadows, his blue gaze becoming alarmed as more became visible against the dark building tops; Able to count four. He took a single step back in to a fight ready foot stance, eyes locked on all four of their dark armored shapes. "You're gonna have to do better than four." Steve called out as he reached over his shoulder and grasped the shield edge, pulling it off his back and curling his fingers around the strap.
The lead figure immediately responded in a flat tone, "How about six." Steve jolted as a click from far behind him signaled danger. His shield lifted as a canister shot through the air at incredible speed and force, striking the vibranium with a loud clash. It's shell was obliterated on impact, a plume of thick crimson smoke enveloping the corner of the rooftop which he stood.
Steve's senses were suddenly alight with a searing pain, coughing and grimacing as he squeezed his eyes shut. He spun the opposite direction and swung the shield outward in an attempt to clear the smoke, blinded and choking on the substance. He gave a wheezing gasp, processing movement somewhere in his hearing and forcing his eyes open. Steve lunged forward and brought his shield across the armored figure that disturbed the smoke to his side, the blow sending him off the roof with a shout as he flew over the edge.
Steve's heel hit the edge as he threw his weight to the direction of the wind and took a backwards free fall before his boots hit the ground. He stabilized himself on the hard landing, gasping and coughing with a hand on his neck. His eyes looked bloodshot, fighting to clear his lungs and keep his eyes open to fight. The broad shouldered blonde rose from his knee and whirled around the moment he glimpsed the black armor in his peripherals. He missed the first swing as his attacker took a hard lean to the left, unable to evade the second attack that immediately followed. There was a loud metal crack when his knuckles met helmet, bringing his knee up and driving it hard in to the smaller male's side, shoving him off. Steve wheezed, coughing and sharply inhaling to bring air in to his lungs again.
With a bounce of his shoulders he was ready to fight again, the burning in his eyes and airway skirmishing the line of tolerable. Another click made his heart skip a beat as he dropped in to a crouch, raising the shield at an angle. There was a harsh whistle before a sharp clang and a flash of sparks, the gas canister ricocheting off the edge of his shield and flying over his head. It exploded against the building far behind him in a burst of thick red fog.Steve straightened and braced for another attack, his gaze locked on the four that were now left. Each were intentionally standing far apart from eachother, making it incredibly difficult for him to watch the movement of all four, especially with his blurred vision.
He flexed his grip on the shield's strap, digging his back heel in to the cracked overgrown pavement. "I can do this all day." He remarked, inhaling without struggle this time.(Part two coming soon)
