Keith was jumping on the sofa with his tongue out, pointing at Alice who was sitting with a pout next to him. Winning in 'Mario Kart' will always and forever be a delight that not everyone can describe oh so easily.
"You got wrecked! I won three times in a row now!"
"You're gonna break it sooner or later, you know." The creaking sounds that came out of the sofa got louder and louder whenever Keith's feet would land on it.
"Next round, the loser will do a solid for the winner." He finally stopped when he got tired and sat once again, "Deal?"
"What do you want?" Alice asked, sighing in defeat.
Keith bust a gut with how Alice gave up so easily, already presuming her loss.
"We haven't even started the next game yet!" He slapped her arm, "C'mon! You didn't come here just to sulk, did you?!" Keith placed her controller back at her lap right after she threw it away, trying his best to encourage her.
"It's 'cause you shout too much whenever we play! I get distracted!"
His eyes widened, "Woah, why is it my fault?!"
Keith's mom knocked on the door. When she entered, seeing the two friends bicker at each other made her laugh and shake her head. She neared them with a tray of two big cups of 'halo-halo', a Filipino cold dessert. It was basically a mixture of crushed ice, evaporated milk, and various ingredients as toppings; including 'ube' or water yam, sweetened beans, sago, 'gulaman' or sweetened gelatin, pinipig rice, fruit slices-most commonly banana-flan, and a scoop of ice cream.
"Nak, I got you meryenda."
The moment they heard Keith's mom announce her presence, their eyes darted towards the dessert right away. When it was already in front of their faces, it was as if they weren't arguing a few seconds ago.
"Ma, did you put a big chunk of leche flan on mine?" Keith asked his mother.
"Yes, nak."
He raised his glass and inspected its contents thoroughly, "Did you put less bananas?"
"Yes dear."
"But why does it look so many? And why is there pinipig in here?"
Alice slapped his knee, making him stop from sounding so ungrateful, "That's mine, idiot." Keith whispered an 'Oh' and they exchanged glasses.
"Thank you so much Mrs. Pineda!" Alice smiled widely at Keith's mom who did the same.
After mixing their treat and taking in its goodness, Alice's phone rang.
