Graduation
Toni's POVCheryl and I entered our school, graduation gowns on.
"Here we go." I smiled, holding my hand out.
Cheryl smiled, grabbing my hand before we walked into the school.
-------
"We made it, guys. We. Made. It!" Principal Weatherbee spoke into the mic.
"The class of 2020. More like the future of 2020. Sitting here before all of you are students who work their very hardest to please each and every one of you." He said.
"And they all successfully did. I am so proud of each of you. Not only as a group but as individuals. Before I give away the diplomas. I'd like to welcome our valedictorian, Antoinette Topaz!" He clapped.
My mouth opened in shock as all my friends and my girlfriend smile and clapped.
I walked over to the mic, looking at all the parents, grandparents, uncles, cousins- all of the families who were in the audience.
"Uh, Wow. This is an honor, I uh, I never expected this." I said.
"Um, I would've has a whole speech prepared but as I said, unexpected. Uh, so I guess I'll just go from my heart." I shrugged as the audience clapped in approval.
"Uh, okay." I chuckled, "I've had a rough few years of my teenage life. The passing of my father, then my grandmother, but that didn't drag me down. In fact, it made me stronger. My mom always told me to push forward even when times or rough, because once your out of that rough patch, success is easier to reach. I uh, I met my beautiful girlfriend." I smiled, turning to face Cheryl who had a deep blush on her face.
"It's not one day that'll go by and I would just think of her and smile because I know that Cheryl and I are unstoppable. My mother, someone I always looked up too. She's the reason why I kept pushing, well besides Cheryl, but you get the point." I said making everyone laugh.
"And to the students that I see and watch every day. I'm really proud of you guys, and I wish you all the best in the future. You did well. We did well. Thank you." I smiled before stepping away from the mic.
The audience erupted into cheers as I watched my mom wipe away tears and clap.
I smiled before sitting down. Cheryl smiled, kissing my cheek before whispering in my ear.
"I'm so proud of you." She whispered.
I smiled, leaning my head on her shoulder.
"Now for the class of 2020."
"Jason Blossom."
"Josie McCoy."
"Blake Johnson."
"Antoinette Topaz." I smiled as I walked over to receive my diploma.
"Cheryl Blossom." I smiled hearing her name.
"Yeah, babe!" I cheered.
"Veronica Lodge."
"Elizabeth Cooper."
"Aaron Adams."
-----
After graduation, Cheryl and I had a train to catch."Keep safe will ya?" My mother smiled, hugging me tightly before doing the same to Cheryl.
"Yeah. Dad got us." I smiled, looking up.
"He's proud of you, T." Penelope smiled before hugging me.
"Yeah. I know." I smiled.
I turned to my best friend as he and Valerie held their kids.
He handed one of them to Valerie before running into my embrace.
"Gonna miss you, kid." He chuckles before sniffling.
I smiled, hugging him tightly.
"Me too, Jay." I sighed.
"I'll keep a good eye on her, Jason." Cheryl smiled.
"You better." He pointed chuckling.
He hugged Cheryl before kissing her forehead.
"Keep going, sis." He smiled.
"Always, JJ." She smiled.
My phone beeped, letting me know the train will be arriving.
"We gotta go, Baby." I sighed sadly.
Cheryl kissed her nieces on the cheek before saying our final goodbyes.
I smiled as Cheryl grabbed my hand.
I'm her brother's best friend
