It was the day of the trial. Finally it was there. Not knowing what John had to expect was a punishment for me. I had visited John every day. At last I got used to the jail. They never led him see me without the handcuffs, but I sat on his lap and told him about what happened in school or how much I loved him. School was a topic on its own. Everybody stared at me and some of my so called 'friends' left me too. It quite hurt, but now I knew they had never been real friends. I didn't tell John my new nickname, he would just turn angry. Even when I just walked to the Mensa I could hear them whispering it. "Jail whore". The whole town was waiting for the trial and everyone knew my name. Press had been waiting for me everywhere, hoping to get some new headlines. After school, in front of my house, in the mall, everywhere... Disgusting, all of them. When I entered the court, the whispering started. I kept my head up, didn't look to the side and walked straight to my place. One of my most important rules... Don't show them you're weak. I sat alone, no one had come with me, but it was better that way. My dad asked me if he should come, but if our plan worked out it was better for him to stay at home. So did Katy. I was right, she was excited about me and John, but at the same time she feared him and I felt that she built a wall between us. She didn't tell me everything anymore, avoided eye contact with me and tried to find excuses. It was painful to see her sitting next to other people where I used to sit. The time I had spent with parted us. It wasn't even my decision, I loved him. Maybe it was better that way. I touched my ear, feeling the little earring. The second time I was in jail John gave the other one to me. "When I found it, I knew what happened", he said. I remembered the desperation in his eyes, when he thought about that moment.

The judge entered the room and everybody got up from their seats. I looked along the audience and didn't see someone I knew. That was good. The judge talked about the case and I only listened halfway, thinking about the plan. If it didn't work out we'd both end up in jail for a very long time. And the worst was we'd be parted, not in the same cell, not in the same jail, probably not even in the same city. But it was too late for doubts now and I made my choice. Then they brought John in. This time he wasn't handcuffed and he looked better than when I saw him the first time in jail. He had gotten more sleep and he didn't have to be worried about me, his enemy wasn't alive anymore. The funeral of Hector Depp was silent and not many people were there. John's family, I saw his brothers far away. They didn't look too sad, they barely knew their uncle and what they knew was that he blackmailed their brother. I didn't get closer, it was enough for me to see his grave after everybody was gone. I stood there a long time, thinking about how quick things changed. Just a few days he ago he told Aron to hurt me and now he was dead. About the other guys, who followed him, his beloved gorillas, I had never ever heard a word again. But alone they weren't dangerous. Well I hoped so.
