It seems like I've been in that room forever when I am finally lead out and back into the hallway.
Sawyer told me things about the society I live in that I can't quite comprended. I don't know how to explain, but I'm not supposed to discuss it anyways. The society doesn't know about Sawyer or people like him or me. I'm different. The test went well... too well apparently. I didn't miss anything and when looking through my responses and work they came to the conclusion that I was one of them. They want to run tests on me to be certain. I don't understand what this all is. I really just want to get back into the society and be with my family. "When will the new tests be done so I can go home?"
"I'm sorry. I just went through all the basics with you and I know it is a lot to take in, but you need to comprehend what I discussed with you. Then you'll learn more," Sawyer says without really answering anything. All he's said to me has been not a full thought leaving out details. Somehow I'm supposed to comprehend all this nonsense. Why am I here? Why don't I have a ranking? Where is my level pin and why can't I wear it? What level am I now anyways? "What's with all the stupid half answers, well actually, non-answer answers? This is torture, you know? I want to go home. I want to get my job. Hell I want my ranking, my pin. Tell me why I'm here. What the hell did I do wrong?" I basically yell at him. I'm fed up with being here. I want, no need, answers now. I sat in a room for hours then this dude shows up and we walk forever. Then, we talk for even longer and I'm told basically nothing. Then we walk some more and I'm supposed to internalize all of this "information". It doesn't make sense. I'm losing all sense of time and I'm tired of being here. Tired of this guy not telling me anything that makes sense.
He stops and looks directly at me. I can see some of his eyes through the sunglasses when he looks at me. "I'm sorry for all the confusion. I understand," his eyes dart up and I follow them. He sees a camera and walks forward to where there is a door on the right side of the hallway. He stands in its entrance. "I'll talk to you after the new tests you'll take next. Don't worry, I'll guide you through this. I'm..." he pauses "I understand what you're going though. It's going to be okay, I promise," he pulls down his sunglasses and looks at me; like a friend showing you everything will be fine. Then, almost as quick as the gesture comes it vanishes and he says in an almost stern voice, "don't tell anyone I spoke with you outside the previous meeting about anything in regards to this situation," a pause, "do you understand me?"
He sounds serious, so I say, "yes" and he pulls me back into the hallway and walks swiftly. He checks his watch periodically as if we are going to be late. I almost have to run behind him to keep up.
Suddenly, he stops in front of a door, this one is labeled 205. He opens it and lets me walk in first closing the door behind him. The room is furnished like a suite in a nice hotel. There is a bedroom, kitchen, sitting area. As I look at the living room area I see a woman sitting on the couch.
"Hello," she says without turning to face me, "come sit,"she pats the spot next to her and Sawyer gestures for me to go. He starts to follow behind me, but stops when she says is a stern tone, "Thank you Sawyer. You know when to be back."
He almost instantly, as soon as she starts the statement, turns on his heel and leaves. I sit.
