It was happening. Indigo's most feared nightmare is now reality. She had lost Andy. It was now confirmed that she would remain a virgin forever and she was going to grow old with 80 cats and die without a husband. She didn't want anybody else, she just wanted Andy.
Sam walked into Indigo's room to find her lying face down on her bed. A large tub of Ben and Jerry chocolate fudge brownie ice cream sat at the foot of her bed. To both Sam's utter horror and amazement, the tub was three quarters empty. Puddles was worriedly batting at Indigo's hand, which dangled limply from the edge of her bed, with a soft paw. At the sound of Sam's footsteps, Indigo flipped herself over weakly and sat upright. The television was on, Indigo was watching Dora the Explorer. "Hey," Indigo croaked feebly, managing a tired smile. Indigo's long hair fell around her shoulders like a black and brown waterfall. She was wearing a white T-shirt with light yellow sleeves and the caption "some dudes marry dudes. Get over it." ( I have actually seen a shirt with that caption. Taylor Lautner was wearing it.) her eyes were red-rimmed. Her face didn't wear it's usual bright, sunny smile. She had probably been up all night, crying.
Indigo had called Sam the previous day, which was the day she caught Scout eating Andy's face. (Not literally, of course.) "is that Dora the Explorer?" Sam asked in both disbelief and amusement as he set down the bag he had slung over his shoulder. "Yeah, I know, Blue's Clues is much better." Indigo rasped as she ran her hand through her hair. Sam chuckled as he opened his sling bag. "I bought Puddles a toy." Sam announced, pulling out a baby blue toy mouse filled with catnip. Puddles sniffed at it, his ears twitching excitedly. "I got you something, too," he told Indigo, before continuing to pull out a bunch of stuff. "I brought you movies, The Dark Shadows, Snow White and The Huntsman, The Dark Knight Rises..."
"Andy really loved Batman," Indigo interrupted Sam quietly. Sam stared at Indigo for a while, before saying, "I also brought you a packet of Cheetos."
"Andy ate Cheetos." Indigo informed him glumly. "I'm sorry, Sam. I really appreciate all this stuff," Indigo said, smiling weakly as she tore open the packet of Cheetos.
Sam didn't know what to say. He didn't want to admit it, but he was kind of happy Indigo broke up with Andy. Maybe he would get another shot. But upon realizing the state Indigo was in, maybe he wouldn't. Truthfully, he didn't like the way Indigo missed Andy so much. In fact, he hated it. It made him immensely jealous.
He looked at Indigo, who was eating the Cheetos cheerlessly. Boldly, he made the decision to give her a tight hug. To both his relief and delight, Indigo returned the hug, leaning her head on his chest. Sam knew Indigo must be feeling awful- but he couldn't help liking the position they were in.
Maybe he did have another shot.
Sam took a deep breath, before whispering, "I'm still in love with you, Indi."
Indigo paused, before leaning away. "I'm sorry. But I can't be with you. Not when I'm like this." She said, looking down. She didn't do a very good job of explaining, but Sam understood. He always had."It's okay." He answered, trying to mask his heartbreak with an assuring smile, before ruffling Indigo's hair affectionately. Indigo grinned at him. "Thanks, Sam, you're the best."
"I know."
