The intercom rang throughout the school, as an old shaky voice produced vital information, "Attention teachers and students, apologies for the disruption, but I have an announcement to make. At the end of school today, it is required for EVERY student to check in the student office for their dorm numbers and keys. If you do not do this, you will not be able to receive a dorm room. I repeat.."
The students in the small classroom murmured amongst themselves about which room they would get and if they'd be paired with each other.
At least, that's what it sounded like to Sherlock.
Of course that's what it was, Sherlock's always right.
He glared at everybody in the room, didn't they have more important things to talk about instead of rambling about some stupid rooms?
At last, the bell finally rung. Sherlock was already out the door and headed to lunch before any of the other students could get out of their seats.
Sherlock slowed his pace as he reached the lunchroom. He slowed down so much, he nearly stopped. He realized he was going to have to deal with the yearly issue that occurred, well, yearly.
Finding a seat.
Great, just great. It's probably going to end up like last year and he'll get beat-up for unknowingly sitting next to some angry kid with dad issues, again.
As he slowly reached the cafeteria, he hoped and prayed there would be at least one face he actually liked.
His prayers were answered.
As soon as he showed his face through the crowd of kids running to sit down and eat, he saw Eleven's face. Grinning non-stop like always.
Eleven must have noticed Sherlock too, because he waved his arm frantically and motioned him to sit next to him in the empty chair.
Sherlock sighed in relief as he made his way towards the merciful empty chair. He sat down and mumbled a greeting.
"Hello Sherlock Holmes! How's the first day going?" Eleven asked excitedly.
Sherlock shrugged, it was going okay, he guessed.
Eleven directed his attention to another student, "Hey you! Over here!" he said while motioning another empty chair beside Sherlock.
The obviously confused student sat down nervously next to Sherlock, "Hi.." he stammered.
Before Sherlock could even give him a dirty look, Eleven went on with his own introduction.
"Hi there! We haven't formerly met! Your the kid-on-my-left-who-doodles. My name's Eleven!" He reached his hand across Sherlock's face took shake the other kid's hand.
The boy was hesitant, "Umm..I-I'm John. John Watson.." He reached out his hand as well, and was meet with a violently shaky greeting. What a strange name Eleven had...
"Nice to meet you John-on-my-left-who-doodles! This is my buddy Sherlock. And my best mates will be here any second now."
While Eleven was busy looking for "his best mates", John looked at Sherlock as if expecting a warm greeting like Eleven's. But he was met with awkward silence.
He directed his gaze away from the pale, curly-haired kid.
John pulled out his lunch, a rough turkey sandwich with an apple and a small bottle of orange juice.
While setting these items out, he noticed Sherlock was staring at him, as if thinking immensely.
He tried to ignore him, but his gaze was like daggers.
His thoughts were quickly interrupted when another kid quickly sat next to him.
"Hey there, mind if we sit here?"
Americans?
Before John could take full focus on the situation, the kid spoke again, "You don't mind? Good. I'm Dean, and this is my little brother Sammy.. We just transferred here and my little buddy's lookin' for some new friends!" the boy explained while rubbing his younger brother's head.
"Quit it Dean! And stop calling me Sammy!" the smaller boy retorted while pushing his brother's arm away from his head.
John chuckled, "Well, I'm John. I'm actually new here too.."
Dean smiled, "You hear that Sammy? You guys are like twins!"
The younger brother grumbled, "Yeah, yeah.. I'm Sam. Just Sam."
He said the last sentence while glaring at Dean.
Suddenly, Eleven burst into the conversation, "Hello Sam and Dean! I'm Eleven and that's Sherlock and yay new friends!"
Sam and Dean were slightly taken aback, but admired Eleven's explosive personality.
Soon conversation started up at the table as the new group of friends chattered non-stop.
Everyone talked, and talked.
Except one
Except Sherlock.***
Lunch was over, and Sam waved a goodbye to his new friends.
He walked with Dean to Sam's next class.
"So what did you think of the curly-haired kid?" Dean asked.
"Which one? The blond girl that came a little later, or the guy who was quiet the whole time?"
"The guy, genius!"
Sam thought then spoke, "I dunno. I guess he was just grumpy or something."
Dean chuckled to himself, "I thought he was pretty creepy, staring at all of us one-by-one. And he was only staring at the new kids, weirdo."
Sam suddenly stopped in his tracks.
Dean turned towards him, "What are you doing-?"
"I totally forgot today's a half-day!" Sam yelled, the bolted down the opposite path he was going.
Dean ran after him, "Where are you going?" he yelled, trying to keep up.
"Student office!"
Oh yeah, the dorms.
By the time they got there, there was already a short line of students.
Sam sighed in relief, "Awesome, we're not too late.."
Dean was taking deep breaths after running down the long hallway, "What made you..remember about the dorms...in the first place..?"
"The halls didn't have anyone rushing to get to class," Sam replied.
"Huh, clever.." Dean said.
The both waited in the short line, moving slightly when one student was finished getting their room number.
At last, Sam and Dean reached the beginning of the line.
"Name," the woman behind the counter stated.
"Winchester, Sam"
The woman handed him a key with the numbers: 220B.
Dean was next.
"Name."
"Winchester, Dean."
The woman handed Dean a key that read: 223B.
"Too bad Sammy, looks like we won't get to share a room after all," Dean said to his little brother in a fake mopey voice.
"Oh-no! Whatever will I do without my precious brother to protect me from the spooky ghost under my bed? I know! I'll get a full eight hours of sleep and wake up refreshed and energized," Sam replied in a sarcastic tone.
Dean laughed and headed towards the B Building outside, "Whatever man.."A/N:
