Lifetime - Ben and Ben

“You look nervous.” Rinig kong sabi ni Kuya Bryce kay Brent. Brent was probably rolling his eyes and rubbing his palms together pretending not to be.

“Ate!” Chu said, I shushed her and smiled. “Tara na sa room mo,” she said, pulling me.

Nakangiti ako, Mama Cindy and Chu as well as Ate Bianca was in my room, gushing over how beautiful I looked.

“I hope you're happy,” Nakangiti sabi ni Ate Bianca. “Habang-buhay 'to, Adi.” Tumango ako, Marriage isn't a joke at hindi madaling makakawala si Brent.

I took a glance in the mirror and saw myself, ngumiti ako. Brent was right, this dress really looks good on me. Yinakap ako ni Chu at ni Ate Bianca.

“Mauuna na kami sa simbahan ha?” Mama Cindy said, kissing my cheeks, I nodded and fixed my hair and make-up.

“Ganda mo ngayon,” he mouthed, I was careful not to trip and embarass myself. Maraming camera, nakakahiya kung madadapa ako. “I love you,” he mouthed again.

I closed my eyes to prevent the tears, Mahal na mahal ko rin naman 'tong isang to. Sobra.

I watched my dad shake his hand and my mom wiping her tears. “Alagaan mo anak ko, Paraiso.” I tried my hardest not to laugh.

“I will love your daughter, forever po.” pangako niya and I know that he will keep it, he always keeps his promise.

“I remember the day I met Brent, it was raining and this boy, was covered in mud, running around their backyard. Sabi ko nga, medyo slow ata siya kasi umuulan tapos nagpapalipad siya ng paper planes diba?” Everyone laughed, Brent rolled his eyes. “But I never expected na susunod pala ako sakanya, na paper planes would be our thing.” I kissed my paper plane necklace, the one that he gave me.

Brent smiled widely, nodding his head and showing a small tattoo by his wrist. A paper plane, the one I also have in my collarbone.

It will always be our thing. Always.

“The first time, I laid my eyes on him, I didn't think he'd see me, singkit kasi.  But he did look at me, smiling and waving his hand. In that moment, I knew that he would play a big part in my life, that he'd always be here for me, and that he'd never leave me, I was 10 when I fell in love with him, he's my dream and I love him so much.” my parents smiled and the crowd cooed.

I inhaled, looking at him, not surprised that he was also looking at me. I raised my thumbs to show him that I'm okay. He smiled wider and took a deep breath.

“Ate Adi.” I smiled at Brendan, he gave me a note, coming from Brent.

I was looking at you.

“Ate Adi.” Tumingin ako kay Brendan, Breaking my eye contact with my mom. Ngumiti ako sakanya. He gave me a little envelope, I frowned. “Pinapabigay ni Diko,” I looked at Brendan, he just shrugged. 

“Restroom lang ako,” paalam ko kay Chu, she nodded and smiled. Focusing on her brother that was embarassing himself in front of the cameras.

I bit my lip, ayokong umiyak bago pa magsimula ang kasal. I went to  Sydney's room to tell her the truth, to finally choose myself, mas gusto kong sampalin niya ako at saktan, than let Brent take all the blame.

“Ate!” She ran up to hug me, I was only a year older and yet she still calls me ate. “Hindi ko na kasi mapigilan,” she said, smiling so wide and happiness clearly on her eyes.

“Bakit?” I asked.

Kinuha niya ang kamay ko at umupo kami sa kama, sinubukan ko na hindi mailang sa mga camerang nakatutok sa amin.

“Ate,” she started and leaned into me. “Buntis ako.”

Isinandal ko ang ulo ko sa labas pinto ng kwarto ni Brent. My hand on the knob... I can't seem to open it.

I can't bring myself to break my sister's heart.

So i'll break mine. “Adi!” Brent ran to me, giving me tight hug and looking at me from head to toe. “Wow.” he smiled. “You look... Wow.”

I smiled and hugged him tighter. “You know I love you right?”

He nodded, kissing my temples. “If you want to run away, may gamit na sa kotse ko, we can run away from all of this, we can finally take the risk, we can finally choose our own happiness, Adi.” He sounded excited.

“Buntis si Syd.” I wiped my own tears again. “I really want to choose you, I want to give us a chance, but we really can't.”

“Adi,” he croaked.

I cupped his cheeks. “Okay lang, sa susunod nalang na habang-buhay.” and I walked away.

“You look nervous,” rinig kong sabi ni Kuya Bryce.

I closed my eyes, trying to forget everything that happened, earlier. The night was coming to an end, just like how my happiness ended.

“One last dance?” I looked up to see Brent. “Last na,” he pleaded. Pain in his eyes, I gave him a smile.

“Magiging daddy ka na,” bulong ko, putting my head on his shoulder. Mag-bestfriends kami, no one suspected a thing. “Please act surprised if Syd tells you ha?” he nodded.

He kissed my forehead.

“Brent,” I called. He raised his brows, “All this time, I have been yours.”

A tear fell and I wanted to wipe it but Sydney called him. My sister called her husband. And I was just his best friend.
