The quaint coffee shop on 5th avenue was a welcomed break from the days... "adventure". It was an adventure of sorts, just not the kind where you find buried treasure. The kind where you have 17 near-death experiences in the span of two hours.

Percy and Annabeth walked in the bustling building, for once able to take a deep breath and relax.

The only empty seats were next to a friendly-enough looking kid, obviously studying or something. His things -that only consisted of a notebook, a binder, and a pen- were sprawled out beside him, just barely edging on the two empty spots. It was perfect.

The pair sat down, and the boy smiled at them politely before inching his things over to himself.

"I'll go and order us some coffee. The usual?" Percy asked Annabeth, taking off at her nod.

The girl spun back around in her seat, twiddling her thumbs waiting for Percy. Peter found it odd that she didn't pull out a phone, or something of the sort, for those seemed to be a staple of most girls her age. He just shrugged it off.

Until she stopped fidgeting. She went ridgid. Something was wrong. A feeling coursed through her veins. An instinct, that was as old as the gods.

It was the same feeling she felt when she was near a spider. Hatred and disgust flowed through her, and she could not figure out why.

Scanning the area, she came to no conclusions. There were no spiders, only the boy. It wasn't the boy.

Unless it was.

Annabeth wracked her brain. How could this boy possibly be affiliated with spiders? Even the word sent a chill down her spine.

She hadn't figured it out by the time Percy was back with the coffees. And this unnerved her even more. They made casual conversation, Annabeth quick to put on a brave-face. Percy still knew something was wrong though, so he did his best to speed their visit.

When they were on their way out of the coffee shop Annabeth gestured to Percy to give her a minute. She walked back the the boy, and tapped on his shoulder.

He looked at her, confused. "I. Hate. Spiders."

The utter shock on his face was enough to confirm her theory. He was affiliated with spiders. In what way, Annabeth still wasn't sure. But she made her way back to a confused Percy anyways, and they walked out of the coffee shop, leaving the feeling behind.
