"You know the plan, right?" I ask him.
He nods quickly. "And you do too?"
I nod in response. We have to stay strong.
Luke grips my hand tightly, making me feel as if he never wanted to let go, and I felt the same way. I wish he never had to let go.
"I can't believe this is happening." I choke, biting the inside of my cheek to suppress my tears I felt coming.
"Shh, shh, don't cry." Luke grips my hand even tighter, to the point where I cannot feel the blood in my veins going towards my hand, but I don't tell him that.
"I won't cry." I mutter.
Luke sighs deeply. "I wish you hadn't met me, you wouldn't be stuck in this horrible cycle."
My eyes widen, and I let a tear escape my eyes. "What? No, I don't regret meeting you. Do you regret meeting me? Is that what you're saying?"
He shakes his head. After a moment that felt like years, he finally opened his mouth to answer. "I don't regret anything. Fate let us to meet. I'm just so selfish, because look what happened now."
"You're not selfish. It's called love." I inform him.
He doesn't say anything, he's listening for footsteps, but is responded with silence. He turns to me.
"No matter what happens, Charlotte, you know that you're the cynosure in my life." Luke breathed heavily, and I could feel his hot breath on my cheeks.
"I know," I gulped.
"What's wrong?"
"What's wrong? What's wrong? You know damn well what's wrong, Luke. We might never see each other again." I tremble, tears forming in my eyes. I can't cry. I won't let myself cry. I have to stay strong.
"Don't say that, Charlotte. Please. Don't panic. We'll find a way out of this." Luke bit his lip, glancing down at me.
I turned away from him, whispering, "Do you even realize what's going on? We're all in danger."
"Danger doesn't mean anything." He said calmly.
I whipped my head around, glaring at him. "Yes it does. It means death."
He said nothing.
