Chapter 45

ART JAKE'S POV

"AJ, could you please get the box, honey?" I barely registered my mother's words, my attention completely captured by the girl sitting on the bench outside her house, absorbed in a book—an unknown story that seemed to weave a spell around her. I had just stepped out of our car, and she was the first thing my eyes fell upon.

"AJ!"

I shook my head slightly, trying to focus on her. Her hair flowed long, silky, and straight, adorned with a white fur headband that framed her face beautifully. She had the most delightful chubby cheeks and eyes that sparkled with innocence and wonder. Her plain white dress hung just above her knees, contrasting perfectly with her radiant spirit.

She was like an angel.

"She's so beautiful," I whispered, utterly entranced, my gaze lingering on her gentle features.

"AJ, what are you— Oh!"

I turned to find my mother standing beside me, her eyes fixed on the same girl, a knowing smile gracing her lips. I pouted slightly, sensing that she understood the source of my distraction.

"So, that explains why you weren't listening to me, huh? My baby boy has a crush," she teased, leaning in to pinch my cheeks playfully.

A laugh escaped me.

"Mom, I take back what I said earlier. This province isn't so bad after all," I admitted, casting another glance at the girl, who was still lost in her book, blissfully unaware that we were discussing her. "She's absolutely stunning, Mommy." I beamed.

"Oh, I'll introduce you to her later. Just help me with this, okay? You're a big boy now, right?"

I turned to my mother, my smile broadening. "You know her, Mom?" My eyes sparkled with curiosity.

"Her mom is my best friend. So... yeah."

My face lit up with excitement. "Mom, you should sit down now. You must be tired. I'll take all the things inside," I insisted, flexing my soft, lean muscles, which made my mother chuckle. "See? I'm a big boy! I can handle it."

My mother laughed even harder, playfully ruffling my hair, which only made me laugh more. "Yes, you are a big boy. But I'll still help you."

"She loves music. She loves music. She loves music," I sang in a playful tone as I busily arranged my lyrics notebook and guitar in my room, unaware that my mother had entered without knocking.

"Where is my baby boy going?" she asked, her voice warm. I looked up at her and smiled.

"I'm going to the hills, Mommy. I'm going to write some new song lyrics." Once I finished packing, I stood on my tiptoes to kiss my mother's cheek.

"Bye, Mom!"

"Take care, honey!"

"I will!"

And yes— I already knew her name. We had grown quite close, and I knew well enough that she adored music. That was why I was crafting a song just for her. Spreading my blanket out on the grass, I lay down on my stomach, letting my feet kick playfully in the air. I pulled out my pen and notebook from my bag and began to write, the melody of my heart spilling onto the pages, inspired by her enchanting presence.

Verse 1
Let me spread my wings and fly away
Escaping a world consumed by rage
But I never knew I'd feel the same
Until the moment I saw your face

Pre-Chorus
Oh, your eyes, like stars lighting up the night
Your smile's the dawn, making everything right
Day and night blend into one
'Cause you're the reason my heart beats on
