Chapter 5

The weekend passed very quickly.  We spent Saturday night at Martha's house, with Leven trying to have a party, and us trying to wach the movie in peace.

But now I regret it a bit, because watching Nightmare on Elmore Street is not a very good choice when you have three 17-year-olds home alone. It make us look for a serial killer in the house until 4 in the morning.

  Stupid choice.

Because I've never felt so exhausted on a Sunday morning in my whole life, but it was funny, so I'm not complaining, much.

Now, I was on my way to my second class today.  English literature.  It was 11 in the morning, and the last thing I wanted to do right now, was present myself in front of a class of a hole class.

  Damn it.

I walk into the classroom, seeing that I'm only the fifth person in it.  I go to the chair I usually do, and I put my coat on the back of it, and the bag in its usual place, but before I put it in the small hook, I take out the book of poems I have today with me, wanting to read more of it.

Time passes, and the classroom fills up.  The bell rings, immediately after it, as if was waiting around the corner, the teacher enters the classroom. We get up saying the familiar words and then sit down just as quickly.

I close the book and push it on the desk, while I wait for the teacher to say something.  She comes in front of the class, just like the last time, and a big smile appears on her face.

"So, last time I introduced myself, so now it's your turn. I want you to stand up and say something about yourself. Like your name, your favorite hobby and stuff like that."  She said, making me want to bury myself in the ground and never get out.

"We're going to start from...here!" She said, pointing to a boy sitting in the front row by the window.  The boy stood up and began to introduce himself.

That's what everyone did until it was my turn.  I get up, planning to say just a few things about myself, and that's it.

"My name is Lily Xander, I'm 17 years old and I'm part of this group from the first year of high school." I say as well as I could, trying to make them leave me alone.  I sit back in my chair, avoiding everyone's eyes.

"Very well, Lily! You want to tell us, maybe, something more?"  She asks me and I shake my head in disapproval.  She leaves out a little "Ok", clasping her hands and going to the next student.  There are only 30 minutes left in this class, and I will finally have lunch. Only 30 minutes.

"So I have a very important project for you!" She starts and I already know I'm fucked.  "This project means that your last grade in these school year, which is very important, so it means you have to do it. I am obliged by the system to give you one last test for the last class or to choose something else, and of course, I choose something else,  because I don't think any of you want to read a boring book and take a test on it, so this project is more fun to do!" She says, and I raise a hand to my eyes, starting to massage them.

"It's a book, but not a normal book, it's a book about a partner you're going to pull out of this bowl!" She said, pulling a small plastic bowl out of her bag.

"So, you will put a note with your name in it and someone else will extract it and you will become partners! But only the first and third row, because we don't want to make an big misunderstanding." Oh God, kill me already.

"So, talking about the book now, I want you to write about your partner in the most beautiful way, to talk about him or her, as if they are the most amazing humans on the planet. I want you to befriend and make their insecurities the most fascinating thing you've never seen. And I mean it. I want to read those books next summer and enjoy them, okay?" She finished her speech, making everyone in the room start talking with each other.
