Maddie and Bucky had decided to date in secret, because Bucky wasn't sure most of the others approved of him yet. They would talk in one of their bedrooms, leaving the door closed. Sometimes, if they were talking late at night (or early in the morning), Maddie would end up falling asleep. Bucky would smile at her, kiss her on the forehead, and leave the room, whether it was her room or his own.
They still interacted with each other outside of their bedrooms, but they were careful not to give anything away. Bucky almost did it when Maddie tripped and he caught her, immediately asking if she was alright. Then, the next day, Maddie almost reached up and kissed him on the cheek in front of Steve, Natasha, Tony, and Wanda, quickly recovering by opening the cabinet door behind him, snatching a cereal box, and rushing out of the room.
Maddie and Wanda still hadn't talked to each other since Wanda had voiced her concerns about Bucky. The rest of the group noticed, and Steve questioned Maddie about it while she was training. "You and Wanda are so close. Why don't you two talk anymore?" Maddie nearly slipped off the pull-up bar, caught off-guard by the question and almost unsure how to answer. "We, uh, had a disagreement."
"Was it bad enough that you two aren't friends anymore?"
"Well, yeah, I guess."
"Is it something you can tell me about?"
"I mean, yeah, but..."
"But what?"
"But I don't want to. Seven... eight... nine... ten." She jumped down from the pull-up bar and shook out her arms. Steve sighed. "Listen, you and her are good friends. You need a good friend to help you out in life." Maddie leaned against the wall. "I have friends." Steve raised his eyebrows. "Oh, really? Who?" Maddie frowned. "Well, I was going to say you, but now I'm not so sure about that."
Steve shook his head. "Look, whatever it is you and Wanda disagreed on, you should apologize. Friends are very important." Maddie picked up her water bottle and took a sip. "She's the one that should apologize. I know I'm right." Steve's eyes turned dark orange. "Quit being so stubborn." Maddie tossed her water bottle back and forth between her hands. "Wanda is the one being stubborn! She refuses to see the good in people, and I'm just trying to show her my perspective." Steve crossed his arms. "Have you seen it from her perspective?"
Maddie stopped throwing her water bottle. "Oh." She thought about it for a moment. Wanda was scared. And she doesn't know the side of Bucky that I do. She looked back up at Steve. "I guess sometimes I forget others can't see emotions like I can. Thanks, Steve." She ran back up the steps, passing Natasha on her way up. "Oh, hey, Natasha, do you know where Wanda is?" Natasha kept walking but replied, "Haven't seen her. She's probably still in her room."
"Thanks." Maddie slowed down a little after nearly tripping on a step. She got to the floor where Wanda's room was, turned down the hallway and knocked on the door. She heard a low, "Who is it?" Maddie slightly smiled. "Does it matter?"
