Chapter Seven
Going to school the next day felt like a burden in itself. Bailey was nowhere to be found when I reached school , and I was lost in the crowd. Heading to the front doors I didn't bump into anyone, and went along with my head down. I finally saw Bailey as I reached the stairs leading up to the main part of the school. She was with two other girls and they were laughing and giggling. Stalking off I tried my best to hold back a swarm of tears that was going down my face. Seeing her with other people, that clearly were more interesting than me, hurt way more than when we ended our friendship.
I decided to ignore Bailey and her more interesting friends and headed to my locker. I opened it and tons of target sticky notes came flying out, floating at the ground near my feat. Managing to pick one up, I saw one that read: " Bailey and Aubrey with a circle and line across it. Seriously I didn't need the whole entire school populus to remind me that Bailey and I weren't the so called "it" friendship of the school anymore.
I looked at the other ones and they all said the same thing. They were posted around the school and everyone was shocked and surprised that Bailey and I weren't friends, but still somehow already knew. How in the world was that possible most of them weren't even there. Someone from the team obviously told everyone, although I would have preferred if they didn't. Did nobody grasp the concept of privacy anymore?, I mean with social media I guess no one does. I knew and hoped nobody did that on the team, as that was against our guidelines and has been ever since Ravens basketball was established around 45 years ago.The morning wore on, and I definitely felt like sleeping in English class. Bailey decided to sit at the back with her group of friends, which I apparently heard changes almost everyday. Math felt like it would never end, and socials wasn't much better. I finally decided to sit on the stairs for a while, as we were let out a while before lunch. Bailey came by, but this time she was with Colten, his arm wrapped around her. That made me even more annoyed that she could just froleck with him and forget about me, and he lets it happen. None of that mattered anymore, I left the stairs and headed straight to my locker: careful not to look at Bailey.
The lunch room ten minutes later was in a total uproar. For a second I thought I witnessed a fight going on, but it wasn't the fight I was necessarily thinking of. Claudia was standing on a table in a somewhat attempt at a commanding stance. She had what looked like a megaphone, but it wasn't There was a huge crowd circling around the table she had decided to stand on, and when I finally reached it, I was huddled in the back. There was a sign plastered on the wall that said,
" Bailey is the daughter of a druggie", written in thick black paint. Seriously this was Claudia's plan to embarrass Bailey, she could have gone a little more timid or do nothing at all. Unfortunately for her Bailey was standing there still. She stood there for a few minutes, and then went up to the sign and ripped it in half. And both halves landed on Claudia blinding her vision of everyone else who were now laughing at her. The rest of the day went on as normal. Claudia had left before any of the school staff could do anything, and threw both halves into the garbage embarrassed. I laughed, now I realised that Claudia wasn't the soft and sweet person we all thought she was. I went home with a smirk on my face. There was no way unless she apologised to Bailey, she could still stay on the team. I told Blake about what happened in the cafeteria, and he showed a look of annoyance. He never trusted Claudia, as I have been told by him more than once. I never trusted her either, nevertheless it was amusing to see Claudia being exposed for the fake person that she was and always will be.Claudia fortunately got home before Colten and Bailey, and ran upstairs paying no attention to her parents who gave her a wave hello as they saw her enter the house. She shut the door of her room and leaned against the wall. Putting her air pods in she blocked out the sound of her brother and his girlfriend entering the house, holding hands. They went to their separate rooms when they reached the top of the stairs. Colten wrapped on Claudia's door for several minutes before she finally answered. The furious look on his face couldn't have fooled anyone. Claudia sat on her bed, her head hanging low. Their parents had left a few minutes later for their regular dinner meetings for their various companies. He shut the door so that his girlfriend wouldn't hear the screaming match that was about to occur.
