TWO
The next day my alarm clock rang loudly , and my hands scrambled around in the dark to try to turn it off. It was Thursday and my heart skipped a beat, realizing tomorrow I would be leaving for our first tournament of the school season.
I walked to school after shoving a slightly burnt piece of toast in my mouth and reached there just in time to be 45 minutes early. I sat outside under the shady tree knowing Bailey and Colten would not be here yet, I have never been to school this early and honestly it felt good. Later on I received a text from my mom telling me that Blake would have to take me to the bus to leave early tomorrow morning, I replied with that would be fine. Directly after I could see Bailey and Cotlen through the main trees, I hugged her warmly and gave Cotlen a handshake, I replied with
" Bailey, are you excited about this weekend, we're gonna crush it.
" Yes, I am, can't wait, she answered with elation. We continued the day with our morning classes, in spite of the fact they went by like a snail running. The morning wound on and on until we realized what time it was, it being lunchtime. I walked over to the cafeteria glancing to see where Emma was, so I could talk to her. I couldn't see her briefly until I noticed her hunched in a corner, slowly eating what seemed like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She finally noticed me and put her above a bin marked "waste" which is a common thing you see in malls, and on that occasion walked over to me and suddenly we were facing each other in front of around 20 to 30 people in the otherwise full and buzzing lunch hall. I looked at her, my hands shaking quietly against me. She kept adjusting her Ravens jacket as it was falling off her shoulders. In a moment she spoke saying in her unique voice,
" I really wish I could come with you guys this weekend.
" I really wish you could too, I responded: Look, I am sorry for what happened yesterday, it wasn't proper for that to happen to you.
" You were supposed to look out for me Aubrey and you didn't she snapped, I appreciate that you're sorry but frankly you didn't do enough
" Really Emma, how did you expect me to avert them off? They were laughing at me and Bailey trying to help you.We bickered for a long time and then I gave it up as a bad job. I walked to the cafeteria solemnly and ordered my lunch. I turned to grab a pizza, but then remembered I had a tournament this weekend and I selected a cobb salad instead, complete with a bottle of flavoured mineral water and warffed it down slowly, my chewing not bothering anyone for once. I went through my afternoon classes gradually and went to our team meeting, which is customary for us to have before any tournament. That finally ended and I dashed home knowing I had to pack. I made it home in time before 4:30 pm and started to pack folding clothes in another duffle and packed my basketball things, smelling vivid and my shoes sprayed with a coconut scented shoe spray that my mom is obsessed with, in my custom Ravens backpack. I placed my packed stuff beside my bed and flopped on it and picked up a book.
Meanwhile, Bailey and Colten are sitting together at Colten's house eating a bowl of rippled chips complete with sour cream and salsa, his hand wrapped around her and her head was resting on his shoulder. Having finished the bowl and placing it down on the table, he lightly kissed her on the cheek and stroked her hair. She gave what was an attempt at a smile, and snuggled closer to him, her head buried in his chest.
He sat her up, smiled and lightly stroked her leg, asking
" Have you finished packing yet babe, you've got a big day tomorrow!
" Yes, I know she smiled with a lack of contempt: I am almost done, just have to pack my backpack tonight and snacks and bathroom things in the morning.
" Great,'' he replied looking at her concerned, for he noticed a smug look on her face.
" Aren't you excited he said questioningly
" Yes I am, she sighed it's just that ...
" That what Bailey, '' he asked, still with concern, seriously babe tell me.
" Is me going to all these tournaments going to affect our relationship? Colten said Bailey :you're all I have, a slight simper in her voice
" Of course, not he answered with complete honesty, this is your passion and It won't affect us in the future if that's what you're concluding: we are fine alright !
" Okay she agrees with an amazing attempt at a smile.
