Chapter Five
It took me a while to realise that the door was still closed, and Emma was still gone. Sitting there slightly stunned, I was looking at the door.
Looking at the door again consciously, I thought to myself: " Was she ever not going to be mad at me." Probably not, she is acting like a totally different person at the current moment. I spoke too soon of course, as she entered the room a few minutes later; the door closed behind her. Sitting down without invitation she made an attempt to smile at me, and I smiled back.
This awkward moment upon me could not have come at a worse time. Judging by the obscure look on her face she was going to talk. "Oh god here we go." I murmured under my breath. She looked at me questioningly, an annoyed look on her face. We both stared at each other." I'm sorry about the way i've talked to you", she concluded," It wasn't fair and I know that.
I wasn't sure how to embark on this situation. Trying to figure out if she was genuine was something that seemed something I rather should or could avoid. However ignoring her wouldn't solve the problem that was evident. Finally mustering speech I replied with,
" Thanks" I stammered, the hesitation escaping me"I would love to be friends again ", Emma replied, noticing that speech had escaped and again I was staring at the wall.
"I would too", I replied quietly
" Great than its selted" beammed Emma confidently
"I guess it was." I thought to myself. Knowing Emma's personality I probably have no choice. Although it sounded better than not being friends with her continually.
She left after a period of time her foot tripping on the rug, making a weird fold in the top left hand corner.
The door being closed I busied myself by folding my laundered clothes in my duffle bag. My phone buzzed but with an irrelevant notification.
Although on the thick of it the majority of notifications on a cell phone are irrelevant. Anyway a while later I heard a shout through the door.
I rushed to it thinking something broke. "Have you seen Claudia" a girl shouted. I recognized the voice Abigail our center and back up guard stood in the threshold.
" No actually now that I think about it no." I answered. She left a look of disbelief on her face. I went through the group chat texting everyone, asking them if they knew where she was. Bailey ran in the door, a flustered look on her face, sweat dripping down. I could tell that she was gratefully affected by the fact Claudia was gone.
" Have you seen Claudia" she breathed heavily, as she slunk down to lean up against the wall." No", I said fervently, " But I've texted basically everyone in the group chat, I added with slight gusto.
"Great"she breathed, she added asking, " Have they given you any lead?"
"No they haven't,'' I replied conversationally.I was genuinely surprised that Gail didn't hold a meeting with us all: and pointed at us one by one to ask where Claudia was. She obviously knew, there was no way that she did not. That alone seemed impossible to accept. "Geez" I thought to myself, " It was one thing to tell Gail but why couldn't she have told us." The thing was though Claudia was the type of person who bottle things up, and was reluctant to share anything that might be of value to others. A theory bounced through my head, such as maybe the drama with Bailey made her leave. But then I thought if that was the case she would have told us. No that wasn't logical it must be something that certain people possibly her family would caution her not tell more people than needed. Still with Claudia being gone a new atmosphere circulated in our team. We had Abigail as a worthy and talented substitute, but it just wasn't the same. I had a huge urge to call Cotlen, but the sinking feeling that he wouldn't know either was creeping through my mind. Everyone had a strange feeling that the rest of this weeked would not work out the way it's supposed to.
