"Hello, children! Welcome to your first day of Trainer School!" the principal said, bursting the auditorium with sound.
"This year, we have some new staff as well as some student teachers. Please stand up if I say your name," he said, then continued rambling on with a whole list of names.
I didn't listen. I didn't when I was in school and I'm not now. I don't really need to though. My name is at the bottom of the list as the new battle class teacher. My mind was preoccupied with other things. For example, I'm a little jealous of the person who disbanded Team Plasma. As a result I'm picturing what might have happened media-wise if I was the one to do it.
After I finished playing out that little scenario, I blamed all the things that prevented me from fulfilling this wish. My parents banning me from my journey for the most part. Now they are making me wait another month since they've heard there are still some members left. They think it's too dangerous for me. Funny, because there was a time I blew up an entire line of Team Plasma motorcycles. Well, not me.
Emolga. My very first Pokemon who selflessly traded herself for a Petilil I promised a little girl in Striaton City I would get back for her. Two years later and I still have the Petilil with me. Being banned from my journey meant not being able to leave Castelia City. I hope the little girl doesn't hate me for hanging onto her.
However, since I couldn't leave Castelia, I had to find a way to help out the secret organization I'm in called the Heroes of Unova. It mostly consists of the stereotypical people like the gym leaders and the Unova Champion. The new champion kind of changed the organization. And for the better, I might add. She gave me the job of working at the school and finding potential recruits.
"You have the ability to see people. Who they really are and their intents as a human being. Kind of like an Emolga," she had said, though I now wish she hadn't. Losing Emolga really hurt.
I clutched at the empty place on my chest where the Heroes' usually had a necklace to identify themselves. I noticed it was missing a while after the trade. I went back to the Initiation Hall to look for it a few days later, but it was gone so I assumed Emolga had picked it up. The chance of her actually picking it up is very slim though.
Anyway, the principal finally said my name and I stood up.
"Yes, he may be young, still, but the Champion herself gave him high praise. So treat him well," he said, finally finishing the names as well as a short, following speech. By the time we were sent to classes, it was time for the fourth period of the day. Time for my first class.
***
I've never been good with an audience, and now I have to teach a class of around twenty ten-year-olds. I stand at one end of the school arena, which is pretty small. It only has enough room for one battle. Oshawott, Padfoot (my Herdier), and Swoobat (Woobat had evolved over the past couple years) stand/flys behind me.
I watched as the last-year students walked through the double doors, loud as ever. They were all deep in conversation with friends they may or may not have seen over the summer. The next part was really funny because I could just tell who walks who status-wise by the groups they broke off into. The popular girls to my left, the popular guys to my front, and literally everyone else no matter what they looked like to my right in the bleachers. Alright, time to start.
"I'm going to need everyone to be quiet!" I yelled, not loud enough though. They just kept talking. Padfoot tried a bark, but that didn't work either. He looked at me and I nodded.
He turned to everyone and used Roar. It reminded me a lot of Shrek. Also, like Shrek, it got a lot of people's attention.
"Thank you," I said to Padfoot. "Well, hi everyone! My name is Devin which I'm sure you can call me that because I'm three years older than you guys." I chuckled a little, but got a few shifty looks from the students.
"Anyway! Today is the first day of school, so it'll be easy. First I need to ask which of you currently has a Pokemon with you." A student from the popular guys group rose his hand as well as a girl from the miscellaneous group.
"Great! I'm sure we have enough time to battle both of you, so you in the back, come to the opposite side of the field. Everyone else move to the bleachers," I said. My plan is to not use any blocking moves or dodge any attacks. I'll try to keep it turn-based if I can.
I saw on the kid's face that he looked a little embarrassed. I saw why when he released a Clefairy onto the field. A few of the popular people snickered, but the others remained silent. I could tell the misc people were intent on watching now that they knew one of the popular people had a Pokemon commonly stereotyped as a female's companion.
I talked to Oshawott explaining the plan for a second, then he ran fearlessly onto the field.
I smiled and said, "Battle begin."
