"The Hurt becomes the Healing"

"I can try? Let's go" said the girl, she was a bit taller than Miya, her long reddish brown hair touched the crook of her back, she wore a black sweater, with black leggings and a pair of black adidas shoes, her makeup was done nicely with a dark berry purple lipstick to go with the dark colors of her clothes. This girl, was Miyas best friend, her long time child hood friend, Maggie, also known as Maggs. They had grown up from head start, to now, grade 10.

"Okay, well let's go ask her before the bell rings" Miya said as she and Maggie walked through the halls and to the classroom. "Oh hi girls! How are you guys doing?" Merhnaz spoke as she waved her arms to hug maggie as she had already hugged miya previously. "I was wondering if I can join the class?" Maggie asked and of course the teacher nodded and welcomed her into the class.

Soon the school bell rung throughout the high school, and so the two sat down on the table next to the corner of the room, soon brekken came into the class, and sat next to the girls, brekken was a tall, buff dude, with a fully grown beard, weird right? His beard started growing in his early years of high school. For a bunch of natives it's weird, since the genes don't usually include beards. Maybe little goatees but never fully grown beards. Next came Felix, who laughed happily at the person's jokes next to him which happened to be Tyrese, who to Miya were like her brothers, Tyrese was always an asshole, and will continue to always be.

They all sat down next to the three that already sat there, slowly the class started to fill up, nobody sat next to the five, until two boys walked in, Miya knew one of them, but the other? She knew he was familiar but how? She could not put a finger on it. The one she knew, his name was Aaron, and he was a pretty, emo looking dude, tall, long hair which seemed to always be greasy, and he wore all black, she knew him as a pretty good guitarist. Little did he know, she used to have a little crush on him, but doesn't anymore since he was too scary. In other words he was a bit scary to be by and talk to, intimidated. The boy she couldn't put a finger on was an average heightened boy, with his hair parted to the side, with a long fringe, brown hair which had a red tint to it. He wore black pants which sagged, like almost any other Rez boy, but he made it look different, with a blue sweater, and a hat. His chin was pointy but it matched him, high cheek bones and slanted brown eyes. The two sat beside Felix as Aaron knew him. Which completed the table.

Miya felt comfortable, and happier with the choice, she didn't feel as anxious and sad. As the class went on, she learned that the boy she could not put a finger on, his name was James. She also remembered why he was so familiar, a summer back she had seen her cousin at a powwow with James and this other kid. Tried talking to them but, the other kid was rude and so she didn't want to speak to them anymore, turns out the boy being rude was James's step brother...what a small world.

She smiled at the jokes that went around the table, then James spoke, "off myself at 27 like Kurt Cobain" it was out of nowhere, but it was funny, in a dark humour way. Miya was always one to get dark humour, she loved Kurt Cobain, but....come on. It was funny to her.

As the class went on again, more of his dark humour peaked and made the class more enjoyable. She had noticed though, he would not stop staring when he got the chance.
She began to question herself, why was he looking at her? She wasn't worth looking at? Was it because of her makeup? Or her hair? What?  She began to get very self conscious. The feeling of anxiousness over came her again, she looked down and her smile dropped.
Again she began to think, her mind engulfed her along with her sadness. She really wished she was happy, and excited to be alive, but she wasn't.

The bell rang for school to be out, and the sadness was even more harsher. She stood from the table and gathered her stuff, and awaited her best friend so they can walk together to the bus, but before she did she took another look at James, he smiled at her. Which made butterflies flutter in her tummy, cliché but...it was true. She and Maggie then walked out towards the busses that took them to their homes, in their designated places, they said their goodbyes and on they went, home.
