(I haven't read the third book yet)
Where? In real life, sadly. I read it on e-book, hardcover, and paperback, (Yeah, I re-read it, sue me).
By? Polly Holyoke
Genre? I'd say adventure, science fiction. Marine stuff, basically.
Status? Completed, but I'm not sure if more books will come out.
Why do I like it so much? Its really interesting, and I love the idea of telepaths and animals working together, plus it puts an intriguing spin on mermays, which is a BIG plus. There is, unfortunately, the annoying love triangle, but its a really good book, nonetheless.
I also love the different aspects of what it is like to transition from air-to-water, and vice versa, as well as other parts of what it might be like to live in the ocean, like how to procure food and medical equipment. Its an exciting read, and the characters are pretty cool.
What is it about? A teen girl finds out her mother secretly changed her DNA by mixing in DNA from marine animals. This discovery, which is shared by her ex-best friend and the younger brother of her crush, forces her into the sea, where she must learn how to survive on her way to a meeting point where other people like her will go as well, before heading to an underwater colony in the far reaches of the ocean. Her telepathy, stronger than most other's, and also a trait shared by her mother, helps her communicate with a dolphin pod, which she had previously worked with as a scientist, and they are vital to the young groups survival.
All along their way they are plagued by the constant threat of their capture by the military, and they face many underwater threats, including, but not limited to, shark attacks, squid attacks, and gross food. (This has mainly been based off of the first book, so as not to spoil anything)
Rate it: I'd place it at around a 9/10, because I'm not too fond of the love triangle, as well as a few other tropes that I consider cliche.
Did it make me cry? The second one made me cry a lot, but that was my second or third time re-reading it, and it was after midnight, so I do not hold it completely accountable for my tears.
