Alison lay on her bed, holding her phone above her head and staring at the contact labelled 'jd'. For some reason, her mind kept thinking back to the nickname JD gave her; princess. Why did she like it so much and why was she getting the sudden urge to text JD.

In a sudden burst of confidence, Alison typed out three letters and hit send before she could stop herself.

me

hey

Then, as if a dam had burst, she wrote out and sent three more messages.

me

its me - alison

i just wanted to thank you again for
defending me in the library today

it meant a lot to me

She swallowed nervously, immediately regretting it. She desperately held down on the messages wondering why she couldn't delete them. It was the 21st century and she couldn't delete a few messages?

Then the read symbol appeared under her texts and she saw the speech bubble that signified JD was typing.

jd

Don't worry about it princess

I was just being a decent human being :)

There it was again. What was it about that nickname that caused her cheeks to heat up. It wasn't like she'd never been given a nickname before. Chad has nicknames for her. But, she realised with resignation that Chad's 'doll' didn't really inspire the same feeling as JD's 'princess'.

Wait.

Stop comparing your boyfriend to a girl. You love Chad...

Right?

She noticed with a start that JD phrased the text in such a manner that she could just not reply if she didn't want to and it wouldn't be seen as rude. But, strangely enough, Alison wanted to reply.

So she hesitantly did, waiting not even ten seconds before JD's response appeared in a little grey bubble.

me

maybe, but ur the first person who
has stood up for me in a while lol

jd

Not even chad?

Surely he hears everything people
say about you.

Doesn't he defend your honour
or some other straight person shit?

me

honestly, i think he likes the rumours

he thinks they make him look
good for bagging me, or smth

jd

Woah

Did I fall asleep and wake up in
the 16th century or something?

Because last I checked women
weren't objects that could be
bagged

me

aha yeah ig

anyways, i'll see u tmrw

Alison smiled softly at the screen, then re-read her last text and, to her horror, realised that it sounded like she missed JD. And that she wanted to see her, so she rushed to specify what she meant so that there would be no, er, misunderstanding.
