"Please!" I whined.
"No." Rick said for the millionth time.
"Why?" I asked.
"Because." He pointed to my ankle.
"Oh come on. I've been through worse."
"Like what." He asked raising a brow.
I ignored his question. "I've been here a few days. I haven't been much of a help and I need to start pulling my weight."
"You've helped a lot with Judith." He pointed out.
"But I'm using up resources that I should be helping you get."
"Prove to me that you can walk on your foot without the crutches, and then we'll see." I started walking up and down the cell block. Then I started to run. The pain was mostly gone.
He sighed. "Fine. Be ready in a few minutes."
"Yes!" I went into my cell and grabbed my hunting knife and stuck it in my boot. I always did that. Then I grabbed my pistol and some extra ammo. Last thing I did was swing my bag over my shoulders and I was ready to go.
Rick, Glenn, and Maggie were waiting outside. "I saw a small daycare not too far from here. We're running low on formula." Maggie said.
"And I saw a gas station. They might have some fuel left." Glenn said.
"Well, what are we waiting for?" I asked and clapped my hands together.
"Daryl." Glenn answered.
I rolled my eyes.
Glenn raised his brow. "Did you two know each other before this?"
I told him the same thing I told Rick. "Something like that."
"Yeah. It seems like you two had something going on before this." Maggie teased.
"Maybe." I teased right back.
Finally Daryl walked outside. "You finally ready, pretty boy?" I asked him. Maggie and Glenn tried to hold their laughter back. Daryl flipped them off and glared at me.
"What?" I innocently asked.
We all got in the car. Of course I got stuck next to Daryl. Thank god Maggie was next to me. In the few days I've been with these people, Maggie has been my best friend. We already have so many inside jokes.
I looked over at Daryl. Something from his neck shined in the sunlight. "Like what you see?" He asked.
"Please." I scoffed.
I snuck a look at him. Once again, something shined from around his neck. Then I realized, he still had his necklace.
(Another) Flashback
"I got you something." It was Valentines Day and we were hanging out at his house. Neither of us had money to go to a facny restaurant but we were happy just to be together.
He pulled out a box and opened it. Inside were two silver necklaces, one said "Always In" and the other said "My Heart."
"Oh Daryl. They're beautiful." I threw my arms around him and kissed him.
"Turn around." I turned around and pulled my hair up so he could put the necklace on me. When I turned back around, he already had his on.
"You'll always be," he paused to kiss me, "in my heart." He kissed me again.
"I love you so much." I said and kissed him one more time.
End
I put my hand around my neck and felt the silver chain. He kept his after all this time. I thought he hated me.
"Abbey?" Maggie asked.
"Huh?"
"We're here." She said and looked at me with confusion.
"Oh. I'm fine. Don't look at me like that."
"Ok."
We got out of the car. When she said small, she underestimated.
"You said this was small?" I gawked at the big building.
"I guess I saw it from a distance." She laughed.
"I guess so." I replied.
"Alright, here's the plan. Glenn, Maggie, and I'll search through the east side of the building. You and Daryl search through the west side. Grab anything useful." Rick explained. Great. I knew he made Daryl and I go together on purpose. They knew something was up between the two of us.
Maggie, Glenn, and, Rick left. "Lets try this classroom." I suggested.
I pounded my fist on the door. We didn't hear any noises. "Lets go in." Daryl said.
I held up my finger. "Wait."
He sighed. All of a sudden, a walker pounded up against the door.
"Told you." I smirked.
"Whatever." He opened the door and shot the walker with his crossbow.
We looked through to make sure there were no more walkers hiding. There were bodies on the ground, some of them children. The room had a depressing feel. Children's toys, clothes, and cribs were littered all around the room. I almost wanted to cry. The thought of innocent children not being able to defend themselves was the worst.
Daryl noticed I wasn't happy, so he found some blankets and covered the bodies. "Thanks." I told him.
"Yeah." He mumbled.
I walked around to the back of the room where a small baby changing area was. The cabinets were already open and mostly empty. There were a few jars of strawberry-banana baby food, some diapers, and some small towels. I grabbed everything and stuffed it In my bag.
"Find anything?" Daryl asked from the other side of the room.
"Not much." I said and walked to a closet in the back of the room.
I opened the closet and a walker came out and grabbed me. I shrieked. "Daryl! Help!"
I tried holding the walker back. Damn! For a walker, he was strong. Daryl came running my way. He stuck a knife in the walkers head.
"Thanks." I bent over and put my hands in my knees.
"You ok?" He asked and put a hand on my shoulder.
"Fine. That walker was really strong." I said and stood straight up.
Daryl was staring at me. "What?" I said, furrowing my brows.
Instead of giving me a response, he pulled me into him and kissed me. I tried pushing him off, he wouldn't budge. Then I did something I never thought I would do again. I kissed him back. After what felt like hours, he pulled back.
"What was that for?" It was my turn to ask him.
"I don't know." He answered.
I rolled my eyes. "You can't just kiss me and not have a reason."
"Why did you kiss me back?" He asked.
"I don't know." I quietly said.
"Whatever. We're supposed to be looking for supplies."
We continued to look around. But there was one thing on my mind. I had to ask him. "You still have your necklace on. Why?"
He turned around. He didn't respond.
"Why?" I asked, once again.
He took a deep breath and looked me in the eyes. "I still love you."
