"you keep rushing me, reagan, and we're not going to go," cynthia says in a warning tone as she puts on a pair of earrings. reagan tries not to groan or roll her eyes, and it takes everything in her to hold back.
reagan exits her mother's room and goes back into her own. it's the fourth of july, and joshs family's throwing a BBQ. of course reagan wants to get there right when it starts, but her mother doesn't seem to be in that big of a rush.
feeling bored, she texts summer and their friends kaia and bria, the girls mentioned at the beach who are also cousins and attending joshs barbeque.

reagan doesn't respond and clicks off her phone, spinning around in her rollie chair. she extends her long legs and looks down at the white maxi dress she's wearing. reagan decides that she won't be able to move comfortably in her dress, and gets up to change.
she finds a pair of red paisley print shorts and pairs them with a white, cropped tank top. patriotic. reagan changes into a pair of shorter nike tube socks and her pair of 1s that she has matching with josh.
finally, her mother calls for reagan and nadia to come downstairs, and reagan grabs all of her necessary belongings before jogging downstairs after nadia. the girls follow their mom and nadias father out of the house and into the car.
they hop in the back and reagan texts josh that she's on the way.

reagan slides her phone into her pocket and looks out the window as they drive to joshs. so far, the two of them have been doing well. they aren't dating yet, but they might as well be. it's almost like they never stopped dating. that's how good they are together.
the SLAM video came out a few days ago, and she was in it a lot more than she had thought. the cameraman caught them on the bleachers, after josh took that picture with the fan, and it blew up over social media. but a lot of his fans focused on the cuter moments, like before he went onto the court. how the cameraman captured when josh winked at her, she'll never know, but that blew up as well.
"where does he live again?" julius asks from the driver seat, looking at reagan through the rear view.
"off of 170th and maple," reagn replies, shocking herself that she knows the exact location. she gets there from muscle memory.
