You stood in front of the mirror in your bathroom and stared at your reflection. You took your hand and touched the bruise that was forming on your cheek, it didn't look that bad and you knew it could definitely be worse. Now I know what you're thinking, "Oh no! Am I being bullied? Did I get into a fight? What happened?" Well actually it's none of those things. You, (y/n) (l/n), were just VERY clumsy. So clumsy it was almost unbelievable. As clumsy as the female protagonist of a shoujo manga who every guy loves. But that's impossible because you're just a normal girl living in real life. I know it sucks but that's just how it is.
To make up for your awfully normal life, you love to read manga and watch anime. Let's be honest, you're a ~weeb~. You always fantasize about what it would be like to live in a world where all your favorite fictional characters exist, I mean who wouldn't love that? But, even though you're a weeb that's not all that defines you. You do have a social life, you're not exactly popular but you're not a loner. You like to hang out with people but you also like spending time alone. Doesn't everyone? Now let me tell you one more thing before we get back to the story. Although you love manga and anime, you HATE cliches. Absolutely despise them. You like it when characters are unique and have interesting backstories. Which is why one of your favorite series is Haikyuu!! You like to spend hours reading fan fiction, looking for fan art, and watching funny compilations. You're definitely a super fan. With all that out of the way, let's get back to the story.
You pull your hand away and curse under your breath. You tripped over the carpet in your bedroom and hit your cheek on the floor. Nothing out of the ordinary, but it still hurt like hell. You look back at the mirror to take in your full reflection. You have (h/l) (h/c) hair, (e/c) eyes, and pretty clear skin if you do say so yourself (and you do). You're pretty tall (A/N: I'm sorry if you're not actually tall I just see a lot of fan fictions with really short characters and I wanna give tall girls some love! It also makes it a little bit less cliche :)), last time you checked you were around 5'6 or so. Sometimes you're insecure about your height, but you never let it bother you too much, you like to live your life to the fullest. YOLO, right? You grabbed your toothbrush and finished getting ready for bed. It was already 11 o'clock, but you were a night owl so it didn't bother you.
When you finished your routine you went back to your room. You carefully stepped over the section of carpet that you tripped over and flipped it off. Ha, that'll teach it a lesson. Your bedroom was basic. Basic desk, basic bed, basic dresser, basic walls. But you did have a pretty cool video game setup. You were proud of that. You were about to turn on your computer when you heard something hit your window. You jumped and slowly walked over to see who, or what, was making so much noise. You opened your window as your best friend, (F/n), threw another rock, successfully hitting you in the face . (AN: I used female pronouns to describe your friend but if you want to make them a guy that will work too!)
"Ouch!" You yelled out, bringing your hand to where the rock hit your forehead. Great, another bruise to add to your collection.
"Oi! Sorry, (Y/n)!" (F/n) yelled back. You glared at the girl and she gave you a sheepish smile. Your eyes softened and you couldn't help but smile back. (F/n) had been your best friend since you were in kindergarten, and now you're both in your first year of high school. (F/n) was always there for you, and you were always there for her. You guys were attached by the hip all the time, it almost seemed like you never were apart. But you guys always had to say goodbye when you dropped each other off at the other's house. But you can't stay apart very long, which is exactly why (F/n) was here now.
"What do you need?" You called down. She rolled her eyes and took a few steps back. (F/n) has always been athletic, and you just exercised a normal amount. You would rather watch anime anyway. She ran towards the wall and jumped to grab your window ledge. Your window wasn't very high up, so it wasn't too difficult. You grabbed her hand and helped pull her inside. She fell onto the ground but quickly stood up.
"I don't know how I fall every time we do that, it's been three years since I first snuck in." She mumbled, brushing off her knees and fixing her hair. You just laughed and smiled.
"So, why are you here?" You asked sitting down on the edge of your bed. She turned to you and gasped loudly.
"Do I need a reason to come visit the love of my life?" She asked dramatically, clutching her chest and falling onto your bed. You couldn't help but giggle. She glared at you but stayed lying down. She kicked her legs up in the air and let them dangle. "Okay, okay, I'll tell you." She said. She reached into her sweatshirt pocket and pulled out a ring. She grabbed your hand and put the ring into your palm. Then she crossed her arms and leaned onto the end of your bed. "Pretty cool, right?"
You looked down at the ring. It was a simple gold ring with a simple circle gemstone on the top. You smiled when you realized that the gem kinda looked like a volleyball. "Is this a Haikyuu!! reference or something?" You questioned.
(F/n) shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. I was walking downtown earlier and this woman was giving these out for free. She said that could help your biggest dream become a reality. It sounded like BS but I wasn't gonna turn down free stuff." She gave you a smirk and you couldn't help but imagine Kuroo, they have a similar smile.
You slipped the ring onto your finger and it fit perfectly. You held your hand out to admire it. "Oh, (F/n)! Are you finally proposing to me?" You said, dramatically fanning yourself and pretending to blush. You and (F/n) burst into laughter and didn't stop for at least five minutes. You wiped away the tears forming at the corner of your eyes as the laughter started to die down.
(F/n) flopped onto your pillow. "(Y/n) I'm sooooo tired..." She complained. You laid down next to her and pulled the covers over both of you.
"So I guess that means you're sleeping over?" You asked. All you got as a response was a mumble into the pillow, so you took that as a yes. You reached over to turn off the lights and looked at the ring on your finger. It was very pretty, even if it wasn't magical like the woman claimed it was. You smiled and thought of what your biggest dream would be. Probably living in the same world as the Haikyuu!! characters, that would be pretty cool. You turned off the lights and started to fall asleep. That night your dreams were filled with volleyballs and attractive anime guys, you had a soft smile on your face all night.
