fly

I should be afraid.

A logical person would…

But there was no room for fear inside now.

I’m past the point of fear.

They say your life flashes before your eyes…

Time has slowed down and gave perspective.

It allows you to think back…

remember your life

And everything that led to this point.

Every Tear, every cut…

everything is black and ugly flashes

Like grotesque lightning.

Burning from the inside out

The wind cools the fire

Snuffing it out

It soothes the pain and

Replaces it with pleasant emptiness

Till the end.

A gust of wind brings one last smile

Millions of miles off the ground…

Everything is visible from up here.

For a moment, the world isn’t ugly.

One tiny step into the air

Of the safety of the stone and dirt

To the freedom that lies beyond all this.

It’s not hard.  Step.  Open your arms…

Fly.
