The pre wedding functions were completed,it was the morning of the nikkah and the palace had been the busiest it had ever been in almost a decade."Malika e Hindustan, are you ready ?Queen mother has asked you to come to the harem courtyard as soon as possible, everyone has assembled there." Jamila informed.
Meera was in the Bawarchi khanah (kitchen), looking after the preparation for the dinner herself, she wanted everything to be perfect for Noor's wedding, it was her duty as the Queen and as her sister-in-law.
The devil on her should laughed listening to her thought.
"Meera Meera Meera." Said the devil dramatically. "If Noor is your sister in law wouldn't that make you Haider's wife, but you don't believe in the Nikkah Meera, remember you don't!"
Meera shook her head to get rid of the thought and with a poof the devil on her shoulder disappeared. She quickly made her way to the harem courtyard and every single woman tied to the royal family was present, everyone old or young, titled or not curtsied to her, she was Malika e Hindustan and held power over everyone present.
"Ammi Jaan, I'm sorry I didn't know I was needed here, I was in the rasoee (kitchen) overlooking the-."
"Meera I don't want you falling sick with over exertion my dear." Inayat said caressing Meera's cheek with affection. "And you don't have to apologise, all of us understand the Queen is a busy lady."
"Busy doing petty job of the khansaman." Zulekha derided earning a sharp look from Inayat which made her shut up.
"We are going to the near by Mazar, to pray for Noor's happy life, I.. I was wondering if you wanted to come ?" Inayat asked cautiously, Inayat knew that Meera followed a different faith, it had taken time for Meera to adjust to their lifestyle she didn't want to push Meera or pressurise her into anything more.
"Me ?" Meera asked stunned.
"I told you phupho, she wouldn't come, we wasted our time waitin-."
"No, no I want to come." Meera said with a smile. "I was just shocked you would ask me, I don't really know much about your faith but I will come if it means praying for a happy life for Noor." She smiled and a blanket of peace settled in Ammi Be's heart knowing that the new queen was indeed a good soul.
Soon the convoy of palanquins left the palace gate for the Mazar a few miles from the city.
The Mazar wasn't a big one, although it was extremely beautiful, the floor and walls of the Mazar was made of pure white marbles, huge trees provided shade giving a sense of peace and tranquility. The calmness somehow made Meera feel more self aware and connected to her soul.
"This way Meera." Ammi Be said leading her to a covered structure, she walked behind Ammi Be and the queen of Lahore - Mariam Ejaz.
They stopped near a shallow pool of water and dipped their feet into it and crossed the threshold into the shrine, Meera followed.
She keenly observed as Ammi Be gave a chaddar made of flowers and then everyone made a dua. She too joined her hands and bowed her head to pray,to pray to whichever god who hear her, she prayed for a happy life for Noor, for her father, bothers and her newborn niece, for Ammi Be's health, for Kanika to see what was right and in the end she prayed for Haider - for him to be happy.
Back at the palace Noor was given the royal bath and was being prepped for her wedding, she was radiating with happiness. Noor has waited for this day since a long long time.
She was in love with Tahir since she was thirteen, she fell in love with him the day he found her crying as she fell down the stairs and had broken her pink and yellow glass bangles.
She smiled remembering him rush to her as he made her sit and took her hand in his, he plucked out the glass pieces from her hand and bandaged it with a piece of cloth he tore from her dupatta.
She remembered crying for her bangles more than from the pain and then for her beautiful dupatta Tahir had destroyed.
Noor had hit him with her tiny fist and bawled her eyes out. Tahir apologised profoundly and had bought her glass bangles in seventeen colours the same evening. It was that day she had fallen from the stairs and fallen for him hard.
"Why are you smiling so wide Shehzadi Noor ?" One of Noor's handmaiden asked her.
"Because I'm crazy and I'll become angry if I don't get ready on time." Noor said scrambling off her bath and heading to her room to get ready for her marriage.
