The harsh cold breeze whipped through Kaitlin's hair tossling it around into a snarled mess. Once she arrived at her dreaded home she quietly unlocked the fragile wooden door and crept her way up the broken staircase. Kaitlin quickly locked herself in her room making sure her parents, nor her siblings could make contact with her. She just wanted to be alone.
Kaitlin looked into the mirror studying all her flaws but not noticing any of the beautiful aspects about herself, and silently turned around to face her bed.
Kaitlin glanced around her room feeling like something was out of place
The dull purple paint was still chipping off the walls, the wooden floor was still all scratched up making her room look like a crime scene. The lamp in the corner of the room flickered and her bed still a mess from the day before. Kaitlin sighed bothered by the fact that she didn't know what was different. But in the corner of her eye ache caught a glimpse of something silver. She turned around to see her desk that's normally just covered with books and papers, to have a present on top of it.
She carefully grabbed the silver wrapped Box and pulled the red ribbon off of it. Taking the top off the box Kaitlin pulled out a book.

"To kaitlin,
Merry Christmas
Love Samantha"

The fault in our stars
Kaitlin has always wanted to read it but has never had the money to buy it.
Kaitlin wondered what she would do without her best friend. she felt guilty that she didn't get anything for her friend, but it is Christmas eve, there's still time right?
Kaitlin reached under her bed and pulled out 10 one dollar bills she had saved up over the months. She got dressed into blue jeans a red top and a black jacket slipping on converse and throwing on an old beanie Kaitlin rushed out the door to surprise her friend.
On the walk to The shops Kaitlin admired all the couples rushing around and kissing under the mistletoe, she wondered what it would be like to receive a kiss.
The little bell made a ringing noise when Kaitlin entered the small shop. She looked around in wondered thinking about what it would be like to be able to afford any of this. Kaitlin wondered through the endless isles trying to find the perfect gift for Samantha. After walking down what seemed like thousand of isles Kaitlin has finally found the perfect gift for her friend. Her fingers traced the necklace all the way from the top of the chain to the small heart locket at the bottom. Kaitlin stood in like behind a thousand of other late Christmas shoppers. Once it was her turn she placed the locket in the counter
"10:37" the nasally voice asked after scanning the item. Kaitlin pulled out her money and placed it on the counter. "37 cents short kid," the lady smirked
"Wait I have it" Kaitlins seldom voice whispered. She searched through all her pockets finding nothing but an old piece of gum. "Move along kid, there a lot of people waiting" "wait, no I need this!" Her quite voice cried "can't I just pay you back"
"No I'm going to call security if you don't leave" the lady seemed to have no compassion on Christmas Eve.
"here" a man behind Kaitlin held out 37 cents. Her fragile fingers took the change and her eyes looked into his to see if there was any sign of regret or annoyance. None. She turned around and handed it to the lady and she wrapped the gift and handed it to Kaitlin. Kaitlin stepped to the side admiring the blue wrapping paper with some old mans face on it. She waited for the kind man to pay and once he did Kaitlin walked up to him.
"Thank you for paying the rest for me" she whispered looking into his familiar chocolate brown eyes.
"It is the Christmas season isn't it?" His deep voice chuckled.
Kaitlin looked down as he stuck out his hand "Lucas Grayson" her small cold hands met his large warm ones as she whispered "Kaitlin Stone"
His eyes held a sign of confusion and interest as she turned to walk away. Once she was down the road she turned around to see him still standing in the same place looking at her.
Kaitlin blushed and turned back around scurrying off to Samantha's house.
Once the cold girl arrived at her friends house she rose her hand and knocked on the talk sturdy door, opposite of hers. A woman's face looking an older version of Samantha opened the door. "Kaitlin come on in!merry Christmas Eve!" The woman pulled me into a gentle hug and led me to the dining room where Samantha's family all gathered around to feast. Kaitlin wondered what it would be like to gather with family and be happy, and eat. Kaitlin rarely ever eats.
She walked over to the chair her friend was sitting at and gave her a hug
"Thank you, how did you know I wanted that book?"
The blonde gigled "it's all you ever talk about!" Kaitlin handed Samantha her gift and Samantha gasped. "aw Kaitlin! You didn't have to!" Although insisting that she didn't have to, Samantha waisted no time before ripping the gift oped and gasping once more. "Kaitlin it's beautiful! I love it! Thank you so much!" Samantha jumped up and wrapped her friend in a hug once more.
"Oh you must stay for the feast!" Samantha insisted putting on her necklace.
Fighting the urge to say yes Kaitlins stomach growled.
"See even your stomach says yes" Samantha's mom insisted.
"Thank you very much for the offer Mrs.Glacer but I really must get home before it's too dark" Kaitlin whispered, walking out the door as the loving family wished her happy holidays.

Kaitlin continued her walk in the dark alone on Christmas Eve and once again found her self crying hot tears.

All Kaitlin wanted for Christmas is a family like her friends.
