16. Marred

Katara suddenly woke up to a stabbing pain in her stomach. Her eyes shot open as she held her hands over her abdomen. Tears immediately started to flow down her face as she tried to stay calm, knowing something must have happened to Hiei. Since it was still night time, Katara didn't want to wake anyone up so she stayed silent as long as she could. Well, that was the plan anyway.

A gut wrenching pain overcame her again as if something were being twisted inside of her stomach and she screamed, eyes shut tight. She could feel the hot red liquid pooling out of her. Attempting to grasp the air around her in a dazed state of mind, Katara tried to steady her breathing.

Down the hall of rooms, everyone woke up to her screaming. Genkai was the first to reach the human girl, slamming the door wide open and rushed to her side.

"I think," Katara's ragid breaths were quick, as she tried to fight the pain, "Hiei's hurt."

Genkai, knowing what she knows, rolled her eyes at Kurama's stupidity and replaced Katara's hands on her stomach with her own.

"Whyyyy," Yusuke whined as he stepped inside of Katara's room. He rubbed at his eyes with a yawn and then looked at Katara.

"Seems like the fox over stepped this time." Came Genkai's reply. Katara couldn't dwell on her words like she wanted to, the pain overcoming the human girls body.

"Now what'd he do this time?" Yusuke asked, more wide awake as he came over to Katara's other side. Kurama stepped inside with a guilty expression on his face, not liking how Mukuro handled the situation. Though, Mukuro knew Hiei and the fox had a past together. And she also knew the human girl is bonded to Hiei, so why she was breaking spirit world law was beyond his mind.

As Katara's eyes were shut in attempting to overcome the pain, both Genkai and Yusuke fixed their eyes on Kurama. He avoided there gazes as he walked over to Yusuke's side, thinking playing with fire wasn't a thing he could do anymore. He knew that; he knew Hiei and Katara were bonded - but to make a point to Hiei in order to protect Katara from the fire demons foolishness, he didn't think Mukuro would attempt to be as foolish as the forbidden child.

Yukina's soft footsteps came at the door with a soft voice, "what's going on? Is Katara alright?"

Everyone in the room knew what needed to be done. Just as Yukina took a couple steps towards Katara she stopped, another scream came from the human girls lips. Everyone looked at her body to determine where the next wound would be coming from as Yukina rushed to her shoulder on the side with Genkai.

More blood than before came from her chest, a few inches from her heart. If her parents ever found out about this, she'd have plenty of scars to prove what she had endured.

"I've been trying to stop the bleeding but it's futile." Genkai glanced at Yukina with a worried expression. No one wanted Yukina to have to ask to use her healing powers but they didn't have a choice.

Yukina started on the chest wound close to the heart as Katara's tears ran down her face like a waterfall. Her body became hot as to fight off the threat.

As quickly as Yukina got to her side, she started to work her healing powers. Katara could feel the icy cool sensation and gladly welcomed it. Not only helping the human girl heal, but to cool down her body. The tears started to stop and left stained on her face as everyone tried to help. Not even a minute later, another scream came from Katara.

"Where is it?" Yusuke asked as everyone frantically searched for more blood. Kurama's demon nose could trace it and with a sigh, everyone looked at him.

"It's her back."

"Great, how are we supposed to do that?"

Katara's moment of a tear stained face didn't last long, as fresh hot tears came down once again.

"This needs to stop. I'd send Yusuke to demon world but at this rate we might as well just wait until the threat is gone." Genkai's words pissed off the former spirit detective as he glared daggers at her. Standing up, he folded his arms across his chest.

"And what will happen if she dies? I'm not gonna take a chance on that!" Yusuke started to get hot, working himself up at Genkai's request.

She stared at him, eyes challenging the other. In a way, she knew he was right. But at the same time he didn't think they'd get to Hiei fast enough to stop Katara from bleeding out.

With a huff, she looked down at Katara, "fine, go. Take Kurama with you." At her words, Yusuke nodded and Kurama stood up. Genkai glared at Kurama and he looked back at her.

"Any more and you're just as bad as Hiei the other day."

Kurama's guilt washed over him again. Nodding, he wasn't sure how well Hiei or Mukuro would feel about him being there.

"We're gonna have to make a couple pit stops first, get dressed quickly. Meet me outside as soon as you're done." The fox gave Yusuke a clear order and he nodded, heading off to his room.

Katara's cries could be heard from down the hall as they both got ready. With guilt eating at Kurama's core, he hoped Mukuro wouldn't be stupid enough to go any further.

"I just hope," Katara started, her eyes falling shut just as her mind did the same thing, "Hiei's alright."

Genkai was baffled at how this innocent human girl could think of Hiei's safety more than her own. Feeling bad for someone as innocent as Katara made them feel guilty for not giving their all to Fei, the demon witch. They could have stopped this bond.

Yukina glanced at Genkai, "I'm done with this one. May I?" Yukina questioned as she motioned at the wound on Katara's stomach. Genkai nodded then moved aside for Yukina to do her thing as she dove into deep thoughts about this bond.

As she sat there with an unconscious human and an ice apparition in the process of healing, she concluded that Koenma was her solution to this problem. Maybe he had something in that precious vault of his that could be of some use.

I totally meant for this chappie to be longer, but I'm not on my laptop so it's hard to tell how long I typed this on my phone 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyways, I hope everyone is doing good. I feel like this year is super crazy with everything going on. But I guess in September we're gonna have an alien abduction? 🤔 if you don't hear from me during that time, I got abducted 😝
