You adjusted your boyfriend Justin's black tie around his neck. You ran your arms over his dress shirt before standing on your tiptoes and giving him a light kiss.

It was Christmas night so you and he were going to your parents' house for dinner.

He smiled down at you and then exhaled a deep breath and ran his hand through his hair. You wondered why he was so nervous-he had met your parents countless times.

"I'm going to go start the car so it'll be warm when you get down there."

Before you could even reply, he left the room.

You rolled your eyes as you slipped on your shoes and fastened the strap. You smoothed your dress over your curves in the mirror and smiled at how well it fit. Taking up a brush, you ran it through your hair which you had straightened for the dinner. You loved your big, thick natural hair, but having the curls out of your face for even a night was amazing.

You grabbed a small purse and shoved some necessities in it before making your way to the garage where the car was. When you entered, you saw Justin sitting in the car fiddling with his tie and drumming on the steering wheel.

"Why are you so nervous?" you asked curiously.

"No reason," he replied with a shrug, "I'm just a little tired."

You and Justin had been dating for the past 2 and a half years-if he really thought he could possibly lie to you he had another thing coming to him.

"You slept from 5 yesterday evening to like lunch today...I know you're not tired, Justin," you rolled your eyes, "Just tell me what's wrong."

"I'm just nervous about seeing your parents again," he shrugged, still lying. He had just seen your parents last week and he was laughing and having a great time as always.

"You should just stick to singing, pretty boy," you laughed.

"What?" he replied confused.

"Continue singing because lying surely isn't one of your talents."

You could tell he rolled his eyes and ran his hand through his hair again without even looking at him.

Twenty minutes later, you guys pulled up in front of your parents' house. He grabbed your hand as you began the walk to the front door.

At the same time he reached out to knock, you reached out and swung the door open. He gave you an odd look and you shrugged before saying, "I used to live here."

"Merry Christmas!" you smiled as you entered the living room where your family sat.

"Merry Christmas Y/N," your family replied in unison.

Your father came up and hugged you before turning to Justin, who was standing next to you, and gave him a smirk and a firm hand shake.

You narrowed the eyes at the two-what the hell was that smirk for.

"Merry Christmas to the both of you," your father said before walking off in the direction he came from.

Ignoring your father's sudden weirdness, you walked to the kitchen in search of your mom. When you turned around, you saw Justin was hot on your heels.

"Why are you following me around like a lost puppy?"

He shrugged in response.

"Merry Christmas Ma," you said walking up behind her.

"Hey, Y/N," she said without turning around, "Merry Christmas."

"Merry Christmas," Justin said behind you.

Your mom turned around, pushed past you, and went to hug Justin.

"Oh, Justin! It's so nice to see you!" she exclaimed, "I'm so happy you're here."

"It's nice to see you too, Mrs. Y/L/N."

"I just have to take the chicken out the oven and then we can eat," your mom said after letting go of your boyfriend.

"Do you need any help in here?" Justin asked.

You turned your head so fast to look at him-was he actually offering to help your mom? He didn't even want to help wash dishes at you guys own house and he wanted to help at your parents?

"No, I don't need any help; thanks for offering," she smiled at him.

"Alright, if you say so," he grabbed your hand, "We'll be out in the dining room."

He pulled your arm gently towards the direction of the dining room.

"What is up with you?" you asked suspiciously.

Ignoring you completely, he rested his hand on your lower back.

*half an hour later*

You leaned back in your chair slightly and rested your hands on your lap. You had just finished eating and to say the food was good would be an understatement.

"I'm going to go get some water," Justin, who was seated at your left, whispered in your ear. You nodded in reply.

Seconds later, you felt a tap on your left shoulder but when you looked, there was nobody beside you. You heard the room get silent and then your mother gasp extremely loud.

"What happened?"

You started to look around everybody at the table, but when you looked to your right, your jaw dropped to the center of the earth.

To your right, looking up at you with his big, brown eyes was Justin kneeling. In his hand was a small, red ring box.

Your hands immediately flew up to your open mouth and you felt your eyes begin to water.

"Y/N, the past 2 and a half years I've spent with you has been some of the happiest times of my entire life. We've laughed together and we've cried together. Yeah, sure, we have our ups and downs, but everybody does and we've made it through them all.

When I think about you, I know that no one else will ever hold my heart the way you do. When I look into my heart, I see only you. I know my life will never be complete without you beside me to share it. The story of our love is only beginning; let's write our own happy ending.

Life offers many challenges but I know I can meet them if you're willing to face them with me. I love you so, so much and I hope you make me the happiest man alive today by agreeing to marry me. I promise you, no one will work harder to make you happy or cherish you more than me.

Y/F/N, would do me the honor of becoming my wife?"

You stared back at him wide, teary eyes with your mouth open. You couldn't say anything-after his speech, it was like your mind wasn't connected to your mouth and you couldn't speak, so you simply nodded.

"Yes?" he said as he let out a breath.

You nodded again and felt the tears slip out of your eyes.

"You said yes right?" he asked again as he slipped the beautiful ring onto your finger.

"Yes!" you said but it came out as a laugh and a soft sob.

He pulled you onto your feet and you threw your arms around his neck with a smile. You kissed his lips softly and mumbled a soft 'I love you.'

"I apologize for the corny proposal," he said in between kisses.

"No, it was perfect," you wiped your tears.

Everything in that moment was simply perfect.
