The following weeks were the same as that day. Sonny would come over help Adelaide pick out an outfit. They would walk downstairs and Sonny would comment on Adelaide's mother's dress that morning and tell her how pretty it was.
After breakfast they would walk to the bus stop and go to school and ride the bus home together.
Except on Mondays and Wednesdays. Sonny was very persistent about not riding the bus home those days and didn't care to tell Adelaide where she was going. Adelaide would be sure to check in on her and send her a few texts throughout the night but Sonny would only answer them in the morning. It usually only took her three seconds to answer. But every time Adelaide asked her about it, she would just say that she was helping her grandma out at her house.
Adelaide had a huge trust issues and didn't know what to believe. But she didn't question Sonny any further. She trusted her.
Even though she had eventually started trusting her, she couldn't help wondering what she was doing. But even then she never really had time to think about it. Whenever Sonny was there, they would always be doing something fun. Like looking at the goldfish at the small store, or trying on jewelry they knew they would never afford.
But today was Saturday and Adelaide knew Sonny would be there, standing in her room before 10 o'clock. And she had the perfect plans for today.
They would always be outside doing something that Sonny wanted to do. Which was fun but, Adelaide thought it was time to stay inside for one of these days. She had picked out some movies from the rental shop, gone to the grocery store for ingredients to make cookies. She also had a box of hair dye and bleach.
Adelaide thought that they should do something big together. Like, friendship bracelets were cool but bleaching and dying your hair the same color was the next level. And Adelaide was the type of person that needed next level thing sometimes. She was tired of her brown hair anyways.
After she got all of the hair stuff out and put on her Yankee shirt (she didn't care about it very much and it was the only one she didn't care about getting bleach on) she heard Sonny running upstairs.
She turned around as she heard her door creak open.
"Hey Addy!" Sonny was wearing a plain white t-shirt and black pants with a pair of Chuck Taylors (Adelaide let her borrow them since all she had was like four pairs of pink flower shoes). Her hair was in a bun.
Adelaide's smiled slightly. "Hey."
"Are you ready to go?"
Adelaide pushed a chair over to the bathroom cabinet and climbed on top to grab two towels out. "I thought we could maybe... Stay in today? Just because we always go out and- I had plans for us here.." her voice trailed off as she stood on tiptoe.
Sonny walked over and held the chair steady. "That's totally okay! What do you have in mind?"
Adelaide climb down with the towels and nudged her head over to her bathroom. "Here's part of it." She smiled mischievously.
Sunny racer eyebrow and quickly walked over to the bathroom. She saw bleach, developer, bowls and brushes, and two boxes of pastel pink hair dye.
"Adelaide my mom would kill me!" Sonny looked horrified.
"I already asked your mom and she said it was okay that I surprised you."
Sonny gulped. "I've never bleached my hair before.."
"That's okay I have experience." Adelaide assured her, "my mom taught me a few things. Sit."
Sonny did as she was told. "It won't look bad right?"
Adelaide shook her head while smiling. "Not at all."

Before Adelaide knew it, they had baked the cookies, watched all the movies, and finished the bleaching process. It was almost 4 o'clock.
"Sonny we better get the dye in. It takes an hour to develop."
Sonny had was still standing watching her reflection in the mirror as she twirled her hair around and saw how bright and blonde it was. "Okay let's do that before I get used to this hahaha."
Adelaide got the bottle of dye and squirted some into her hand. "Are you ready to look like princess bubblegum?"
"Definitely."
Adelaide lifted her hair up and started at the nape of her neck. She had no sectioning process whatsoever nor did she care. But you did make sure that she was gentle with Sonny's hair.
as she was running the die through her hair she thought about the past couple of weeks she had spent with her. Although they had always been stupid things they meant more to her than things like going to Disneyland or Hollywood.
Two weeks ago Sonny had taken her down to the creek and shown her a turtle that she always sees down there. Adelaide thought it was stupid but it was more special than the time that she went to the zoo. She didn't even know why because nothing even happened.
She couldn't help but ask a question she'd been dying to for the past couple of days.
"Sonny, are we.. friends?"
"Of course we are."
Adelaide gridded her teeth. "But are we the type of friends that tell each other our deepest darkest secrets?"
"I think so. I trust you more than anyone else. I know that seems weird but nobody ever listens to me or wants to hang out with me or do crazy things like how we're doing right now. I'm always just that girl in the back of the class, you know? But you changed that.." her voice trailed off.
Without any warning she turned around and took her hair out of Adelaide's hands spilling a bit of dye on her shoulder. But Sonny didn't seem to notice.
"I have to show you something tonight."
Adelaide frantically tried to wipe off the die before it set into her skin. "You do?" She questioned.
"I do so be ready at your window by midnight."
Adelaide stopped. "What do you mean be ready?
Sunny left and turned back around how she was sitting before she turned towards Adelaide. "Be ready silly. Shoes on, pants cuffed. You know the drill."
Adelaide chuckled and rolled her eyes. "Okay haha. what are we doing?"
Sonny smirked. "You'll see. Now come on and hurry up. I get to turn you into pinkie pie after you make me princess bubblegum."
They laughed together. The Adelaide couldn't help but think what events may lie in the hours ahead...
