Forgotten Thoughts || Shikamaru X Temari

chapter 11

Shikamaru gave her a blank stare. "Excuse me if I was a little preoccupied save your ass." He said walking over to her bag and getting out a rag.

"What use is saving me? I die, you have food. Taboo food, but still food." She didn't know what she was saying, but anything was better than what was actually thinking.

"Don't say that." He dipped the rag in the hot water then sat next to her. "What happened to the strong kunoichi from Suna I used to know?" He took the rag and gently wiped the blood from her legs and hands. "The one that chopped down an entire forest and the- the one that I fell in love with."

"She broke down... She couldn't understand what happened and left. She is as strong as she always was when it comes to over people, other mission." Temari looks away from Shikamaru. "And she still loves you. But that doesn't matter anymore..."

"And why not?" Shikamaru took Temari's chin and moved her head so she was looking at him. "Why doesn't it matter. I told you the truth so, what's so different now?" He had told the truth but so much had changed. Things could so easily go back to the way they were but deep down he knew it wasn't that easy. Temari had clearly gone through a lot. A lot that he caused and he would forever be sorry.

"Because I doubted you... And everything would have been fine if I hadn't... And maybe if I didn't doubt you we would still be together! So why should it matter if I still love you if the chances of you still living me are so low..." Her voice somehow managed to stay steady as she looked Shikamaru in the eyes. She refused to break again.

Shikamaru couldn't help but smile. He doubled over and began to laugh "Temari you're so troublesome. For once stop thinking so hard about things. It matters that you still love me because.." Shikamaru rubbed the back of his neck in slight embarrassment. "I love you too."
