Following Roehath, Jaz finds herself in the main courtyard of the castle, where countless guards are conducting combat training. A few maids sit on the sidelines, watching intently.
"Here we are." Roehath says proudly. "Let me introduce you to the others."
As Jaz walks with him across the courtyard, she hears faint whispers coming from the maids. She concentrates on the sound, as her hearing becomes heightened.
"Who is that? Is she a new maid?" One of them whispers.
"Certainly not! Look out that outfit. She is clearly a ranger." Another answers.
Jaz smirks, as she returns her focus to the task at hand.
"Gentlemen!" Roehath exclaims, getting the attention of the other guards. "This is lady Gart. She is the Goddess's child we have been eagerly awaiting."
The other guards stare at her curiously. A few in the back snicker.
"I want you to give her a warm welcome, and treat her with the utmost respect." Roehath barks.
One of the larger guards steps forward, glaring at Jaz. "All due respect, Roehath, but she is half our size." He leans down, rubbing his chin. "Not very strong, if you ask me."
Jaz glances at Roehath, who has his hand over his face in disappointment. Jaz looks back at the towering guard with a cute smile. "Care to put your money where your mouth is, big guy?"
The guard chuckles. "Sure. What are the terms."
"One hundred gold coins. One match, hand to hand combat. My bet is you will be on your back in under twelve seconds." Jaz says, cutely.
The guard looks at Roehath, who shrugs.
"You made your bed, now deal with it." Roehath says with a grunt.
The guard removes his weapons and steps back. "You're on."
Jaz does the same and lays the dagger over to the side, pointing to it. "No one touches this blade if you know what is good for you."
Roehath stands near the dagger. "I will see to that."
The other guards step to the sides, clearing a large area for them to fight.
The guard raises his arms to a readied position. "Let's see what you can do."
Jaz silently stands with her arms guarding her head. "Lady's first then?"
The guard shrugs. "Why not.."
"Begin!" Roehath exclaims.
Jaz moves in quickly, moving to the guard's left. She places her right arm again his neck and sweeps his legs out from under him, sending him crashing onto his back.
"That was four seconds." She smiles, looking down at him.
The guard looks up in shock. "What the hell was that?!"
"That is called I win." Jaz replies. "Now, pay up."
"Oh hell no!" The guard yells angrily, jumping to his feet.
He takes a swing with his right arm, but Jaz moves in, using his momentum to throw him over her shoulder and back onto the ground.
"You can not land a punch if you are not focused." Jaz says, softly.
A hand touches Jaz's right shoulder and she turns, elbowing Roehath in the face. He stumbles back, holding his nose.
Jaz cups both her hands to her mouth, in surprise. "I am so sorry! Are you okay? You startled me!"
