I spent my free week buying stuff for Hans, and talking to gang members at the large local jail. As far as I was concerned, anyone dumb enough to get caught is dead already. Hans saw differently. You can keep a member, or throw him out. He can turn on you and expose you, or you can keep him.
Personally, I think Hans is a bit of a softie.
Hans is the people-person half of the gang. He takes care of the unserious persons-related parts of the gang. He pretty much organizes everything and makes sure everything is taken care of and runs smoothly. Micheal runs the... Messier half. Takes care of raids, interrogates people, trains members, assigns weapon holders, and hand picks guards. Without Micheal, I think Hans probably would've hired half a dozen under cover cops. Which of corse, is my fault. "The 'street bum kid' doesn't know left from right, and shouldn't be out there recruiting. We should throw him out." Micheals exact words. Between school, gang work and staying out of anyone's line of fire, I have to watch that I don't piss of Micheal. He'd kick me out, or shoot my head off. I still cant decide which was worse. You can tell easily who's in a gang and who's not, just by the way they look. I'd be picked alive and murdered by any other gang quickly. That's why Hans looks out for me. Micheal saw me as Hans weakness, I had stolen from him. Micheal would have killed me. Hans saw me as an opportunity, not a weakness. Without Hans, I'd be dead. I'd be nothing.
Monday morning I was dreading school. There was a possibility the cops would want to talk to me about Brian and see if I knew anything about what drugs he was taking, but I doubted it.
No one seemed to notice my absence. I didn't exactly have 'friends' at school. Sure, a few pot smoking acquaintances, but no one I trusted. I didnt mind, I had the gang, and they where a few hundred friends.
I walked into English, deciding I'd pay a bit of attention today. I had managed to barley slip through school, but I needed to pass.
"Welcome back Blaze." My English teacher Mrs. Clover, smiled. She's the fakest woman I've ever met.
I took my usual seat at back. Then I noticed everyone was splitting into groups, dragging their desks together. I mentally groaned.
A girl walked up to me, sitting her chair down at my desk. "I don't know if you know my name, although we've been in classes together since 9th grade. I'm Lucy." She smiled.
"Blaze." I nodded curtly. Group work meant I didnt have to do anything.
I heard a loud groan, then watched another girl plop down beside her.
"This is Alli." Lucy quickly introduced. "We've been working on our project for a little less than a week."
Alli, the girl whom I had given a tour, shot me a small smile.
The project was on some Shakespeare play, nothing that could interest me. I spent most of the class zoned out, putting in bits to the conversation when nessacary.
When class was over I packed up my stuff and was half way out the door when someone stopped me. I turned to see Alli, glaring at me forcefully. She was at least a foot shorter than me, standing on her tip-toes trying to intimidate me. It was sort of comical.
"What's so funny?" She asked, looking annoyed.
I shrugged. "What do you want?"
"I know you don't go to class often and you where suspended. If your not going to help on this project then I'll personally make sure you fail." She threatened, crossing her arms.
I shrugged again, letting out a half-laugh. "Whatever."
I headed to my class, mentally shaking my head. That girl had some guts.
