Mal pulls up outside Evie's house, somehow Carlos had beat them there.

"How did he beat us? My car is so much faster" Mal pouts as she removes her seat belt, which caused Evie to stifle a laugh.

"Has someone's ego got the better of them?" Evie teases receiving a mocking glare from Mal.

"Best watch your tongue, E" Mal deadpans before getting out of the car, causing Evie to roll her eyes and smirk as she slides out of the car. Mal looks up at Evie's house an lets out a large sigh.

"I dunno if I can do this, I mean. What if your dad doesn't like me? you know, I could make a bad impression and screw everything up" Mal says very quickly, running her hand through her hair. Evie walks over and grabs her hand and squeezes it softly.

"Hey. Don't panic. It's just dinner with my dad. Besides, he'll be too happy I made a friend." Evie shrugs as she pulls Mal's hand gently, feeling the purple haired girls fingers interlink with her's. A very subtle thing, but something that made Evie feel warm inside.

"Dad! I'm home" Evie yells through the house, then hears the footsteps in the kitchen as a head pops out and smiles.

"You must be Mal" he smiled as he wipes his hand on his appron and offers it. Mal smiles and shakes it.

"Yes, sir" she says politely, causing Evie's dad to chuckle.

"Sir? Must be trying to impress me. Gerald's fine" and Mal blushes slightly as she takes her hand back and brushes her hair to the side.

"Carlos and his friend are up in his room. You two can go up, I'll call you when dinners ready" he smiles as he walks past the stairs and back into the kitchen. Mal looks around as she slowly shrugs her bag off and places it on the banister before the two run upstairs and into the room at the end of the hall.

"Welcome to the inner sanctum." Evie chimes as she walks in behind Mal, closing the door behind them as she chucks her back to the side. Mal looks around the room with a smile. The walls were a bright blue, almost matching her hair. Littered across them, were designs of all manner of outfits. Some were very fancy, but others were casual looks.

"Woah, these are amazing" Mal laughs warmly. Evie was glad Mal wasn't looking at her right now so it was easy to hide her reddening cheeks.

"Yeah, they're just some concepts." Evie shrugs as she walks over to her desk and takes a seat.

"Damn good concepts" Mal corrects as she turns with a smile. Evie shrugs again as she spins around to face her desk. "So you have a hot girl in your room, and your going to do, what, homework?" Mal laughs.

"I got to do it" She answers and Mal rolls her eyes before walking over and pulling the chair towards the bed as she sat on it.

"No, you are to entertain your guest." She smirks.

"And how am I meant to do that?" Evie questions, and notices a spark in Mal's eyes before it fades a second later.

"Oh I don't know, but doing homework isn't the way. Especially when it won't be due till later in the week" Mal says as stands up and walks over to the desk and picks up Evie's book, and sliding it behind her back. Evie stands up and walks over to Mal, hand extended for it but Mal swoops past Evie as she dives onto the bed. Evie rolls her eyes as she dives after Mal, who just manages to stretch her arm so the book was no longer in reach.

"Come on, Mal. Give it back" Evie laughs as she tries to grab, but she was just out of reach.

"Nope, you get it back after I'm gone." Mal responds, and Evie slouches in defeat as Mal notices how close the two were. Evie was pressed up against her, she could feel a warmth flooding through her from the contact between the two. Her gaze lock with Evie's copper eyes. Mal had never found the attraction for brown eyes. They always seemed so bland. But now, as she looked into Evie's eyes. She saw it. The hidden beauty. Her eyes felt like they were piercing her soul, sucking her in.

"So" Evie coughs, snapping Mal out of her trance, to which she averts Evie's gaze to hide her blush. "What do you want to do?" Evie asks softly. Mal shrugs as she lays back in Evie's bed.

"Got Netflix?" Mal questions and Evie chuckles softly.

"I think everyone has Netflix, Mal. Even my dad does." Evie comments as she grabs her remote and turns on the TV. "You started Umbrella Academy?" Evie questions.

"Yeah, but only half way through. So no spoilers." Mal says as she points her finger with a mocking glare.

"So that's a no" Evie laughs as she scrolls through and she stops on Brooklyn Nine Nine. "You like Brooklyn Nine Nine?" Evie asks and Mal chuckles.

"It's only my favourite show."

"Favourite Moment?" Evie pushes and Mal ponders it for a few seconds.

"Rosa coming out as bi and Holt's words to her at the end of the episode." She answers and Evie nods in approval.

"Great choice." Evie admits and Mal smiles lightly at Evie.

"Everyone, Dinners ready!" Evie's Dad yells.

Dinner was going well, the conversation was running smooth between everyone.

"So, what's school like?" Evie's Dad asks and Carlos nods as he swallows his food.

"I like it. Classes are pretty good. People ain't bad. Apart from this guy" Carlos comments as he elbows Jay with a smirk. He is met with a Laugh from Jay.

"You caught me. I'm the bad apple of the school" Jay jokes.

"I think I might own that title, Jay" Mal adds and Evie and her dad look at her with confusion. Mal seemed shocked she had just said that, by the look on her face. Jay averted everyone's eyes as he played with his food.

"What do you mean, bad apple?" Evie asks and Mal shrugs.

"I just... I ain't the most liked person at School" she comments as she slowly places her fork on the plate.

"Well, I can't see why that would be. You seem like a lovely girl" Evie's Dad comments with a warm smile. Evie flashed a look of apriciation to her dad.

"I... I should go. Thank you for a lovely dinner." Mal comments politely as she picks up her plate and goes to wash it.

"Mal, you're our guest. You don't have to leave. And you don't need to wash your plate. That's what our dad is for." She sends a smirk towards her dad who had his eyebrow raised at her daughter.

"It's probably for the best. I..." Mal trails off as her gaze locks with the floor. "I'll keep my distance from you, probably for the best." Mal finishes as she brushes past Evie, and heads to the door and collects her jacket and back and leaves the house. Evie looks over at her dad, huffs, then chases after Mal.

"Mal!" Evie calls as she runs up her drive, but she doesn't stop she sprints to get Infront of Mal. "Don't ignore me, Mal. What was that about?" Evie asks softly.

"Look, you don't know everything about me, Evie. You'll learn what I've done in the past, I'm sure Audrey will be more than happy to tell you. And you'll see me keeping away from you is probably the best way. I gotta go, I'll see you later." Mal says as walks past Evie, her shoulder brushing gently across Evie's as she does. Evie turns around to see her climbing into her car and racing off down the road. Evie watched in utter confusion.

What had Mal done in her past? And why was Mal closing off from her?
