Chapter Twenty-Two
Willow’s POV:
“Oh god. Please stop.” I begged my Uncle as I buried my face into my hands.
“What? I think the pipe and cane make me more intimidating.” He said. I glanced up at him through my fingers as he pulled a pose, turning his head thoughtfully to the side whilst holding the pipe to his lips.
“You’re doing this on purpose. You don’t even smoke.” I groaned. “You can just be your usual self you know.” That would be preferable.
“But my usual self isn’t at all intimidating.” He said with a frown. “I read on the internet that I’m supposed to intimidate your boyfriend when meeting him.
I closed my eyes, and took in a deep breath. Opening my eyes again I looked up at my uncle. “You really need to stop believing everything you read. And anyway what makes you think a pipe and cane makes you intimidating?”
He shrugged his shoulders. “Sherlock Holmes mostly.” He answered; giving me a look that questioningly read ‘he’s intimidating, right’.
I smiled slightly, shaking my head. “Look, I really want you and Derek to get along. So could you please just be you?” I asked. “I promise you he’s a really good guy, and you really don’t have to go out of your way to try and intimidate him.”
My Uncle looked at me thoughtfully before letting out a long sigh. “Alright.” He agreed.
I let out a breath of relief. “Thank you.” I said.
He rolled his eyes. “I’ll just go put these upstairs.” He said.
I nodded eagerly, standing up from where I was sitting. “You’re the best.” I said happily.
“Yeah, yeah.” He said dismissively, as he climbed the stairs. As he was doing that the sound of the doorbell ringing caught my attention.
“I’ll get it.” I said, feeling excitement bubble in my stomach, and I rushed to buzz Derek up and meet him on the stairs.
“Hey.” I called out to him when he appeared.
Lifting his head he smiled when he saw me leaning over the stair railings above a flight above him.
“Hi.” He called back, throwing in a small wave that made me grin.
Moving back the railings I moved around so I was stood at the top of the stairs and he climbed up to meet me. “You look nice.” I told him when he got to the top.
He chuckled. “Isn’t that supposed to be my line?” He asked jokingly. I could hear the nerves behind his words.
“Well I’m not stopping you saying it.” I said with a grin.
He shook his head, his shoulders relaxing ever so slightly. “You look beautiful Willow.” He said, making my smile grow as butterflies took off in my stomach.
“Thanks.” I said. “By the way, you don’t have to be nervous.” I told him. “My uncle doesn’t bite.”
Derek gave me a sheepish smile. “Yeah.” He agreed.
