Chapter Eight

“So I’ve been thinking.” Jenifer opened with leaning against the locker next to my own.

“That’s never good.” I joked, giving her a cheeky smile.

She rolled her eyes at me. “Cute.” She waved off my insult. “Seriously though, I’ve been thinking about my birthday in a few days.” She said.

“What about it?” I asked officially intrigued.

“You should invite Derek.” She said thoughtfully.

I raised my eyebrows. “Seriously?” I asked, not knowing where she was heading with this.

“Seriously.” She agreed. “I mean you guys have gotten surprisingly close over the past few weeks, I’m going to have to scope the competition.”

“Competition?” I copied.

She nodded. “Yeah. I think he’s in the running for a candidate best friend. I have to be prepared to fight.”

“Fight?” I was getting more confused by the second.

“Well yeah. I’m not just going to let you go.” She narrowed her eyes at me. “I plan on fighting for you.”

“Okay two things.” I said amused. “One there will be no fighting.” I rolled my eyes. “And two, you have nothing to worry about yeah I’m friends with Derek but it’s different.”

She raised her eyebrows. “Different how?” She pestered.

“I don’t know how to explain it.” I shrugged. “It’s just a different kind of friendship.” I told her. “I mean we’re close but not in the same way that I am with you and Chrissie.”

Jenifer continued to look at me strangely before she snorted loudly and shook her head. She laughed loudly before speaking. “If that’s the case then honey you seriously have to invite him to my party.” She didn’t give me an option.

I gave her a frown. “What do you mean?” I asked.

“You’re so blind sweetie.” That was all the answer she gave me and then she patted my head gently.

“What are you talking about?” I asked, cocking my head to the side.

She just shook her head again. “I’ll leave it to you to work out.” She shrugged. “It’ll be more magical that way.”

“You’re not making any sense.” I groaned at her.

“Just invite him to my party. And make sure he turns up.” She paused for a moment. “Tell him he can even invite his friends, including Makayla if he can manage to keep a muzzle and tight leash on the bitch.”

I blinked in surprised at the amount of hostility in her voice.

“I can’t believe she was so rude to you, I should really punch her in the face.” She continued.

My lips quirked upwards. “That’s sort of sweet in a way.” I told her. “But just leave her alone, not everyone has to like me.”

“Yeah but she doesn’t have to be such a bitch about it.”

I shrugged my shoulders, having no response to that. “I’ll invite Derek.” I said opting to try distract her instead of continue the conversation, because if she didn’t like her there was little I could do to change her mind.

She instantly brightened. “Awesome.” She chirped.

“What are you two talking about?” Chrissie asked, joining in our conversation.
