Chapter 12

●●●

If Taehyung had thought Jungkook had been clingy before then he had been mistaken because nothing could top whatever Jungkook was doing right now. Thanks to living together they knew each other's schedule just as well as their own, which also meant that Jungkook knew exactly when Taehyung was where and could make sure he would be as well.

Not that Taehyung really minded. It was pretty cute actually.

Taehyung enjoyed Jungkook's company, especially now that they were more than just friends. It was funny how Taehyung had never thought of this as an option. Dating his two friends who were his everything... not that they had talked to Jimin yet.

They had tried, but neither of them really knew how to start the conversation so they kept coming up with excuses as to why they couldn't whenever they got a chance.

Taehyung actually enjoyed the time though. It gave him the option to familiarize himself with the concept of dating. After all he had never been in a relationship before. And Jungkook was a cute boyfriend. Easy to please. Affectionate. Really attractive. But the best part was just how comfortable Taehyung felt around him. Because Jungkook was familiar. Jungkook was his home.

But not talking to Jimin soon turned out to have been a big mistake. One afternoon Taehyung and Jungkook were home alone, since Jimin was at one of his last dance rehearsals before his big performance. It always was the highlight of the year. After all Jimin was an amazing dancer, one of the best on his team. Since they both kept pushing the whole 'ask Jimin out' thing back, they had somewhat decided that they would do it that night, right after the performance.

That way, even if they did get rejected, Jimin would already have the whole thing behind him and most of the courses would be already graded, so if for some reason things were to get messy... it wouldn't affect their lives too much.

But things didn't turn happen the way they had planned when that afternoon before Jimin's performance Jungkook admitted to Taehyung how worried about the upcoming Overwatch tournament he was. Jungkook was pretty amazing after all. A while ago he had picked up the habit of playing Overwatch and had quickly become part of one of the best teams in South Korea, which certainly meant something.

Sadly with that problems had turned up as well. Game tournaments were a playground mainly for betas, since (stereotypically) alphas were usually busy doing something else and omegas just weren't too interested in the competitive part of doing it. So Jungkook being one of the very few alphas participating in the tournament also meant that a lot of eyes were going to be on him.

Taehyung really wasn't surprised when Jungkook curled up against him, silently telling him about how nervous he was. And Taehyung did his job as a good friend and started scenting Jungkook while whispering short sentences of encouragement to help him calm his nerves.

One thing lead to another and they were kissing, for the first time since they had made the deal to ask Jimin out. The reason was simple... they really wanted Jimin to be there for however this was going to develop. They didn't want to get too comfortable with each other when Jimin wasn't there yet. At least to them it felt like it was unfair towards Jimin. They really hadn't planned to kiss before they got the chance to talk to Jimin.

But Jungkook was currently very emotional and Taehyung was easily affected by Jungkook's distressed scent, so they did end up cuddling on the couch... which at some point led to kissing. It wasn't all hot and heavy. There wasn't even any tongue involved. They just enjoyed the comfort of each other's proximity. And didn't hear when Jimin entered the room.

"Hey guys, I got us some..." The words died in his throat as he stared at his two best friends, Jungkook sitting on Taehyung's lap as they kissed. Of course they broke apart right away, but Jimin had seen enough. His face went through a couple of emotions; surprise, confusion and, in the end, betrayal.

That was what he settled on as he pressed his lips into a thin line, crossing his arms over his chest. The worst thing was... Jimin didn't even say anything. A few times he looked like he was just about to say something, but in the end he just stared, just like Jungkook and Taehyung. Neither of them had any idea how to start. This wasn't how it was supposed to be.

After what could have been ten seconds or an hour, Jimin simply shook his head, huffing, before turning around and leaving the room again, throwing the door closed behind him.

The noise from the loud bang of the door closing seemed to shock Jungkook out of his frozen state. He scrambled to his feet. "Fuck... we have to talk to him!" The stinging scent of his distress filling the room.

At that moment they could hear the door to their apartment close too. Jimin had left.

Jimin quickly wiped the tears away from his eyes, but they just kept coming. That... he'd known that Taehyung and Jungkook had just always gotten along really well. Were so close. He'd kind of expected them to fall in love with each other. At some point at least... and he had come to terms with it.

The thought of his two crushes together... while being somewhat hurtful, it also made him happy. Because he knew that they would make each other happy. Because they were always there for each other and Jungkook had to be the sweetest alpha Jimin had ever gotten to know.

But it hurt. Stung in a way Jimin had never experienced before. What made it so much worse was the fact that they hadn't told him. They had started dating and kept it secret from Jimin... didn't they trust him with this? Jimin couldn't come up with any reason as to why they wouldn't tell him.

It hurt that they were keeping secrets... so fucking much.

After slowly breathing in and out to calm down, he came to an halt at the subway station. He wasn't sure where to go now... he certainly didn't want to go home. Didn't want to look Jungkook and Taehyung in the eyes. Not right now... the image of the two of them kissing flashed up before his inner eye. They had looked so comfortable with each other. So content... Jimin was never going to have this.

He was certain things would get weird now. When two out of a friend group of three started dating the third one just turned into a third wheel. That was how it always was. Another wave of sobs shook his body. It had always been the three of them. They had always been equals. Their love always equally distributed between the three of them.

They just loved each other over the moon and back. That was what they always had said... but now there was an imbalance. Jungkook and Taehyung had kissed... Jimin was going to slip into the shadows for them... he was sure of it.

When he reached for his phone to call Hoseok to ask whether he could crash at his place it wasn't there. He groaned. He'd put it next to the door when he had come home and forgotten to take it when he had left. At least he had his wallet with him.

Where was he supposed to go now?
