The next day, Cynthia and I were out in the carpool area waiting for Mr. Henderson (who I now call Dad) to come and pick us up. Riverview is so wrong for having us wait out in the summer heat but it is what it is. I guess it won’t matter until somebody has a heat stroke. It was almost one hundred degrees out there!

Anyway, I finally got a chance to meet Amahd The Rapper. It was so sudden! I thought he was just playing around when he said he wanted to work on some tracks with me but I quickly saw that he seriously wanted to do business. I must admit that he looks like a star too.

At six-two, he towered over Cynthia and me. He had pretty, light brown skin and a temp fade like the rapper Webbie. He knows how to put together an outfit too. When I first met him, he had on a burgundy Levi brand t-shirt under a navy blue Levi jean vest with matching navy blue 501 Levi Jeans and white Adidas Samoas. He sported a white G-Shock watch on his wrist and diamond studs in his ears. His appearance definitely impressed me!

I was messing around on my Samsung Galaxy and talking to Cynthia when he walked up behind us. With his deep voice, he said, “What’s going on Brianna?”

I was startled for a second. Then I turned around and saw who it was. I smiled,

“You’re Amahd The Rapper?”

He nodded with a smile, “Yeah. I apologize for not getting back with you on the Facebook chat but I thought it would be more beneficial if we talked business face-to-face.”

“I’m listening.”

“Alright. I saw the video of your audition and was impressed with the strength of your voice. I then knew that I wanted to reach out and make some songs with you. Your style fits the music that I make.”

I grinned while blushing, “You really think so?”

“Yeah! I’m trying to diversify so I want to make some soulful, upbeat, boss type songs that you can hustle and make money to. Personally, I believe that the hook is the most important part of a song. It’s the part that the listener remembers the most about the song. I can see you singing some hooks for me. Do you think we could work something out?”

I nodded, “Yeah, I’m sure we could!”

Quickly, our conversation turned from business to a favor. I was so blindsided by Amahd’s confident swagger and musical mind that I forgot to put a price tag on my services. Fortunately, Cynthia was listening in. She broke into our conversation and said,

“Excuse me, but when is money going to come up in the conversation?”

Amahd chuckled, “Money has always been in the conversation.”

“I haven’t heard any numbers get tossed around though.”

I smiled, “This is my younger sister Cynthia.”

She stepped in front of me and shook his hand, “Her younger sister and unofficial business manager. So, what’s up with money though? Nothing in life truly comes free and you did approach her.”

He rubbed his hands together, “I was thinking $100 a track.”

“When are you going to start recording?”

“I’ll let her know when we get in the studio.”

She folded her arms, “How do I know you’re going to follow up on this offer? It did take you a week to finally meet her face-to-face and you go to the same school as her.”

He laughed, “You don’t play around!

She shrugged, “Hey, when it comes to money you can’t play around.”

“When it comes to music, I get serious. Trust me, I’m going to get back in contact with Brianna.”

“I hope you do. It’ll be beneficial to you to work with a talented viral sensation.”

He grinned, “Trust me, I will!”

After Cynthia grilled him on money, we exchanged numbers and other contact information. When he left, I smiled and said, “He was right, you sure weren’t playing!”

“That’s how you should be when it comes to business, Brianna. Don’t let anybody take advantage of you. When you talk about singing a hook for a song, money should be the first thing that comes up in the conversation. Like he said, that’s the most important part of a song after all.”

Cynthia had a good point. My younger sister was teaching me a valuable lesson. I’m not usually an aggressive person unless I’m pushed to anger. But, I need to get ruthless when it comes to opportunities and my future.
