Starting Over

A Week Later….

This past week has been a disaster! I’m still in the dark about what happened with my parents……well, if I can even call them that. I don’t know what to think about my life anymore. If it’s not one thing it’s another!

Even though I never got a chance to really hang out around my “parents”, we always went to these exotic, exciting places. Because I was an only child, I always got everything I ever wanted. Wherever we went, we were always treated like royalty. I won’t go as far as to say that my life was perfect but it’s definitely better than how The Henderson’s are living!

Supposedly, they’re my biological parents. They live an incredibly simple life that I definitely wouldn’t have signed up for if I had the choice. Even though they live in a huge house on the “rich” side of Worthington just like my original pair of  “parents”, they live from paycheck to paycheck. How are these people racked in debt with the type of jobs that they have? It’s not anything like my other “parents” but their funds should be more flexible.

Mrs. Henderson is a professor at Willowsfield University, one of the top colleges in the south. Mr. Henderson owns his own mechanic shop downtown. From what I’ve seen, it attracts a lot of customers too. There’s no reason why they should be arguing all night over how they’re going to pay the bills, preventing me from getting any sleep at all.

They went at it again last night and I didn’t get one second of sleep. Since it was the night before school, I knew it would come back to bite me. I now attend Riverview High School on the westside of Worthington. Trust me, it’s definitely not like the international private schools that I’m used to! Riverview is located in one of the most gang infested areas in the city. With its record low graduation rate and the childish, deranged students that happen to attend this dump, I’m surprised it’s still open!

My plan for the first day of school was to stay to myself and pray the day would fly by fast. I don’t have time for fake people. From what I learned a week ago, I’ve been dealing with frauds my whole life! However, my plan failed miserably.

After 1st period, I was making my way to my 2nd period class. The halls were incredibly overcrowded. As I tried to navigate around the swarm of people, I heard a few guys shouting out incredibly inappropriate things to me about my butt. I happen to have a nice curvy body that tends to drive guys around the world wild!

In any other circumstance, I would’ve been flattered. At that moment, however, I felt it was incredibly rude. I felt like turning around and cursing them out but I held my tongue. It wasn’t even worth me wasting my breath.

I guess I was the first person that made it to my physics class. Even the teacher was running late! I stood outside of the room door waiting for the teacher to come. As I was waiting, this group of girls that were stationed by the lockers started looking my direction and snickering. At first I made nothing of it but the ring leader of the crew, whose name is Terra, started trying to tease me about my family situation.

She said to me, “Hey, aren’t you that girl that got kidnapped by that rich family?”

I rolled my eyes, “That’s none of your business.”

She smacked her lips, “Well dang! All I did was ask a simple question.”

“Well, I don’t want to answer it! Could you stop being nosey and leave me alone?”

Terra then started talking all types of trash like I was the one that started this drama,

“Girl, you must not know who I am! You don’t talk to me any kind of way! You’re lil’ homeless self is gonna wind up getting knocked out if you keep up with the disrespect!”

I know this girl didn’t just call me homeless!” I thought to myself.

My patience has been running very short since I found out about my “parents”. The last thing I was going to tolerate was some fake behind girl trying to step to me! I dropped my things and walked up into her face. At five-seven, I had a good three inches on her. Although she wasn’t fat, Terra definitely had some weight on her. But, I still didn’t back down.

A large crowd gathered around us, ready to see the first fight of the school year. Unfortunately for them Dr. Peterson, the school therapist, broke things up. She could go for actress Nia Long’s twin with her petite body and baby face.

She stood between us and said to Terra and her crew, “None of that is going down today. Ladies, I need you to go to whatever 2nd period you have on your schedule. I don’t think we want Dr. Lee to know about this!”

Terra smacked her lips again and started walking away with the other girls as she stared me down. Dr. Peterson turned to me with a bright smile on her face,

“I’m assuming that you must be Brianna.”

I folded my arms and nodded my head, not knowing how to take her.

“Well, my name is Dr. Sarah Peterson. I’m the school therapist here at Riverview High. From what I understand, we’ll be seeing a lot of each other this year.”

“Why is that? I don’t need a therapist. I’m not crazy!”

Dr. Peterson laughed, “No one said you were Brianna. If anything, you can consider me a mentor. I’m your personal guide to aid you into growing into a young woman. My job is to make sure you stay on track. Is that cool with you?”

I shrugged my shoulders, “I guess so.”

“Great! I’ll see you later on today during our first session. Make sure you stay out of trouble. I don’t want to hear about any fighting from you Brianna!”

Hopefully you won’t.” I said to myself as I walked away.
