"About your sister," Nick said.
Trubel, who had been in the middle of swallowing a sip of coffee, started choking in reaction to the news. As she coughed, she also dropped the cup of coffee in her hand, spilling it all over Nick's desk.
Nick was too flustered to say anything more than a worried, "Okay," as he frantically pulled tissues from the dispenser on his desk and used them to soak up the coffee before it ruined his keyboard.
Hank was right when he warned Nick that the precinct wasn't a good place to inform Trubel of her long lost sister. He told Nick, "I told you," as Wu nodded in agreement at Hank's side. Nick gave them both a nasty look.
"We'll get some paper towels from the breakroom," Wu volunteered. He and Hank walked away, leaving Nick and Trubel alone at the desk.
The coffee incident attracted the attention of a few police officers that had been circling around the bullpen. The small audience stared at the scene for a brief moment before Nick forced a friendly smile and assured the small audience that everything was fine.
"We're good here," Nick promised. The people who had been staring gradually lost interest. When everyone had resumed their normal activities, Nick turned to Trubel and asked quietly, "Are you okay?"
Trubel wasn't choking anymore, but she was still breathing heavily. She cleared her throat a couple of times and warned Nick in a raspy voice, "If this is some kind of joke-"
"It isn't," he assured her. Trubel's grumpy and suspicious expression melted into one of confusion and wonder.
Trubel took a deep breath to steady herself. "So I really have a sister..." she pondered aloud. Nick watched Trubel's face carefully as she processed the information. It was quiet for a moment before Trubel said, "I'm guessing you looked into her."
"I did," Nick agreed hesitantly. Again, he watched Trubel's face to see if she looked angry or upset. He was worried she would think he was overstepping; however, there was no malice in her expression. "Do you want me to tell you about her?" Nick offered.
Trubel rolled her eyes at him. "No, I want you to keep all of her secrets to yourself," she said sarcastically before yelling "Yes, I want to know about her!" Trubel play-punched him on the shoulder, and Nick pretended to flinch in pain from the blow as he held his hands up in surrender. "Okay, okay," he laughed. "Have a seat." Trubel sat down at the chair next to Nick's desk that he had gestured to. "So... her name is Tara Weber," he began. "She lives in New York City where she owns and runs a number of successful bars. She's 13 years older than you, and-"
"13 years?!" Trubel said in surprise. "That's older than you!"
"I'm not that old," Nick grumbled, offended, before continuing. "Anyway, there's not much out of the ordinary. She seems to be living a pretty normal life. I even checked with HW, and they couldn't find anything along the lines of mental hospital records, assault or murder charges, or anything else... So she might not even be a Grimm."
Trubel nodded as she tried to process that information. Would it be better or worse if Tara wasn't a Grimm? One the one hand, Trubel wasn't thrilled about having to keep secrets from her sister, but on the other hand, it might be better for her sister to live a normal, happy life. But all of these ideas and guesses didn't mean much if Trubel couldn't contact Tara...
"Have you tried to talk to her or track her down in some way?" Trubel asked Nick.
"I called her - a few times. But I only ever got voicemails," Nick told her with disappointment. "I'm surprised that I could even get a phone number. I started this whole search so close to the wedding because I didn't think I would find so much information so soon," he rambled.
