Once again, it's been too long since I last published a chapter. I feel bad, so I'll try to post another one tomorrow.

Thanks for reading and enjoy!

Nick told Trubel to wait at his desk, and as usual, Trubel didn't listen to him. After Nick left to talk to Tara, Trubel followed distantly behind him. She snuck into the adjacent room to watch Nick and Tara's conversation through the one-way glass, and towards the end, heard something she hadn't expected.

"I didn't tell her about your parents," Nick said to Tara.

My parents? Trubel thought with confusion to herself. Why would Nick be keeping information about her parents from her?

She would ask him eventually, but now wasn't the time.

Trubel observed Nick's hesitation at the doorway with his hand on the doorknob and took advantage of the opportunity, running out of the room so she wouldn't be caught listening in.

When Nick left the interrogation room and shut the door behind him, it took him a few seconds to notice Trubel leaning against the wall further down the hallway.

"I thought you were going to wait-" Nick began to question.

"I was too anxious," Trubel admitted, pushing away from the wall and walking to stand in front of him.

"Are you ready for this?" he asked her.  Trubel was staring at the door which Nick guessed was an act of hesitation. "It's okay if you're not," Nick assured her gently. "She would understand if you needed more time."

"I don't. I'm fine," Trubel objected quickly.

Nick examined Trubel's expression carefully. He was worried about her and what could happen; if he saw anything that concerned him, he would tell Tara to come back another time. But as he looked at Trubel, he could only think about how she looked... shy? It wasn't a look that Trubel had ever shown him before, even when she had been introduced to his friends years ago when they had first met. Trubel's hunched shoulders and lowered gaze made her look smaller somehow and less threatening. It could be a good thing considering "threatening" was usually a characteristic of the first impression she gave others.

"Okay, well I'll be in Renard's office if you need anything," Nick told her. He put his hand on her shoulder and smiled at her reassuringly. "Good luck."

"Thanks." Trubel nodded and took a deep breath before opening the door to the interrogation room. Nick remained in the hallway for a few moments before he left to talk to Renard.

Tara was pacing the length of the interrogation room when she heard talking coming from outside. She immediately halted her anxious pacing and turned to see Trubel walk through the open door.

Trubel meant to smile, but the thought slipped her mind the second she walked into the room. She was so nerous, she secretly worried if she would forget her own name. She stared at Tara impassively and said, "Hi" bluntly before shutting the door behind her.

Despite Trubel's awkwardness, Tara's enthusiasm only seemed to grow. She smiled widely, showing off her perfect white teeth beneath her crimson-painted lips.

"Hi," she mimicked happily.

Trubel was thrown off by the sound of Tara's voice. It was deep like her own, but was smoother and gentler; she had only said one word, but Trubel already decided that she seemed nice.

"Uh..." Trubel floundered, looking down at the floor timidly. "I'm Theresa, but everyone calls me Trubel."

"I'm Tara," Tara introduced. "Your sister," she added, her soft voice cracking. She wiped a tear from her cheek and laughed with embarrassment. "I'm sorry," she said, wiping away another tear. "I promise I'm not usually such a baby, I've just been waiting for this for a long time." Trubel smiled shyly and said, "It's okay. I only had to wait ten minutes, and that was enough for me."
