Kaleb
"Have you gotten all your documents for moving here?" Noah asked.
"Just about, the only thing I need to do is the license," I responded.
"Trust me driving around here isn't that scary," He smiled.
"I never said I was scared to do it, I'm just not keen on it."
He gave me a look, the doorbell then rang, he opened it and Lucy was standing in the hallway. Usually I would try and keep my distance, but this time I stayed. There was something going on with her, not that I cared much about her but when I get curious about something I tend to snoop.
"Hey I did a little shopping for you," She said, entering the apartment.
"Oh you didn't have to do that, I was going to go up there later," Noah responded.
She laughed and faced him, "No you weren't"
"Okay I wasn't," Noah laughed.
She giggled, starting to put various foods in the refrigerator and cupboards, Noah checked the time, "Shoot, I'm going to shower real quick, Harper and I are going out for lunch."
"Okay I'll probably be gone by the time you're done, have fun," Lucy said.
"Will do, and thanks for the groceries."
I sat and watched as she finished up, she caught me staring and quickly averted her gaze, that when I decided to start a conversation, "So Chase, he seems like a nice guy."
"Yeah, he is," She said not looking at me.
"How long have you two been together?"
"Um, just about two years."
"You see a future with him?"
She looked at me this time, "Well we've been together for a while."
"That's not what I asked," I fired back.
"Yeah I guess so."
"You don't sound too sure," I pointed out.
"I mean we have our fair share of arguments but it's nothing out of the ordinary I don' think."
"What does he get mad about?" I pressed.
"Why all the questions may I ask?" She laughed uncomfortably.
"Just socializing," I shrugged.
She nodded, after a few moments of silence she grabbed her bag, "Well I have some more errands to run, have a good day."
I smirked to myself, I hit a nerve. I walked over to the window and waited, soon enough I saw Lucy walking out the front doors. She glanced up the window and I gave a wave. she stared at me for a moment before getting to her car and driving off.
The was a short knock on the door before it opened and Harper waked in, "Noah around?"
"He's in the shower," I responded.
She set her hand bag on the counter, "What'd you say to Lucy? She looked a little flustered on her way out."
I turned to her, "I was just asking a few questions."
"About?" She pressed.
"Chase," I answered.
She sighed, her gaze going to the window, "Difficult topic."
"Why's that?" I questioned.
"I don't know, that's why it's difficult. Something isn't right between them and it bothers me that I haven't been able to figure it out."
"Why do you think things aren't right?" I inquired.
"He never comes to any social gatherings that we have, Lucy never talks about him and if he is brought up she immediately changes the subject. Whenever we do see him he's overly friendly, it's weird."
Harper's view of the situation was equivalent to mine, but it's something i was able to deduce in the almost week I had known her while this is something Harper has taken time to figure out. So that's exactly what I pointed out."
"That's all you have been able to get in the past few years?"
She rolled her eyes, "It's not much I know, but Lucy does exceedingly well at hiding things she doesn't want people to know. With her life I can't blame her."
I frowned, "Her life?"
Harper looked away and smiled, "Just that she has had it a bit rough."
I hummed in response, Noah then entered the room, "You ready?"
Harper nodded, "Always."
I just simply nodded and retreated to my room, I pulled out my sketch pad and some supplies, shoving the contents into a backpack.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was currently sitting on a bench in a park I had stumbled across, I figured I should probably;y explore the city I would now call home. It was very serene, the perfect scenery to draw, which is what I had been doing the past couple hours. It wasn't busy at all, someone walking by every thirty minutes or so. The sun was shining, it's honey color casting the tops of the trees and pond. After I had finished my drawing I packed my things away and sat back, watching the pond lap onto the grass as a bird dived into the water. It was the first time since I had been here that I got to have peace and quiet. I had been longing for it a little too much, when I told Noah I wanted to get away from it. Of course the noise wasn't the only thing I wanted to get away from. I shook my head, clearing out the haunting memories that were about to flood my mind.
"Kaleb right?"
I sighed, looking to my left, Lucy's friend Nova was walking towards me, "Yep."
She nodded putting her cigarette to her lips, the end of it glowing before she removed it blowing out the smoke. She took a seat next to me, oddly I didn't mind her company or the strong odor of the cigarette, it reminded me of better days.
"You want to ask me something," I said, catching her stare.
Nova continued to gaze at me for a moment, "What's your problem with Lucy?"
"She talks to much, and I don't trust her. No one is that happy."
She scoffed, "Yeah well Lucy is, and it gets her down when she stumbles across someone she thinks hates her."
I shook my head, "Never said that I hated her, she's just annoying."
"Careful," Nova said, putting the cigarette between her lips once again.
With that we sat in silence, eventually she offered me the cigarette, I took it and put it between my own lips.
