*April 2, 2 years ago from present year*
I sit at my usual spot, elbows on the table with my head resting on my palms, completely bored out of my wits when someone pushed my arm away from the desk. My head fell down chin first with a loud thump.
I cradle my chin and immediately looked to my side only to see him bent over, laughing his ass off.
I stood up and started hitting him while cussing, "Asshole! Jerk!" Landing blows all over his body.
He caught my arms and I immediately freeze, as it is every time we touch.
"Sorry, sorry, I didn't realize you were actually sleeping." He says, still laughing a bit.
I feel hot from where his hands are gripping me. I broke away and gave him one last loud slap on his right arm.
"Bitch", I mumble as I sat back down and calm my erratically beating heart. I rub my chin that got the most impact from earlier as a pretense. I hear him pull the chair beside me and sit down.
"Sorry", he mumbled and I saw a familiar chocolate bar slide down my desk.
I smile slightly, giddy from our earlier interaction and how he knows to placate me. Oh, this is going to be a good day, I think to myself.
"You know this isn't enough to get even. You'll have to take me home later today." I munch on the sweet goodness of this gift.
"Ah, well that's why I gave you chocolates. I can't take you home later." He says distractedly.
I glare at him, asking him for a valid reason through my stare.
He shrugs. "I have an appointment."
Appointment. Ah.
"You mean you have a date with le girlfriend?"
He shrugs noncommittally and I knew I was right.
Well, thanks for the reminder that you're taken, Mister. My mood starts to worsen.
"Ah, so romantic. Dates every day. Tell me, Mr. Suave, is this a prelude to something even more romantic? A grand proposal, perhaps?"
I am digging my own grave, I know. But I can't help teasing him. Plus, I really want to know.
He smirks, "We're not that close for you to know."
We've been friends for over 2 years now, so I'm not at all hurt. Just pissed that he managed to avoid the question I've been dying to know.
I mimicked his voice while making a face at him, "Nyemnyemnye. You don't really have a romantic bone in your body. Of course, I know you want to marry her, idiot."
I turn to face in front and as I bite on the last piece of chocolate, I hear it.
So soft that one would think I must have imagined it. If it weren't from me dreaming about him, I probably wouldn't have been able to tell.
He spoke.
"Of course."
And in those two words, I found my resolve.
