*April 2, present year*

I lock the car and walk towards the hall where the soft music plays. It's a breezy summer afternoon, and I'm glad it didn't rain as I thought it would.

The breeze caught my scarf and took it to a nearby bush. I went ahead to retrieve it when I saw a glimpse of the man I've been dying to see.

Him.

He was sitting on a lone bench, facing the vast garden lit by the afternoon sunset. He's all dressed-up, as he's supposed to be, hair combed and brushed up, with the familiar silver-rimmed glasses perched atop his nose.

He looked every bit of the role he is taking tonight.

I was about to turn around when he suddenly looked to where I was.

Our eyes met once again.

It seemed like an eternity since I last saw him. Since I last saw myself in those eyes.

Nobody moved. Not me. Not him. Just the wind and the rustling of the leaves. It seemed like eons passed when somebody called his name out. I guess it's time.

I gave him a small smile and a light wave.

He smiled a sad smile and mouthed, "Stay."

My heart broke. I knew what it meant. It wasn't meant for today. No.

These are words we never spoke out loud a year ago.

I smile my sad smile, feeling the tears start to fill in. I shake my head.

"No more", I mouth.

He smiles and nods as he stands up.

He gave me one last glance before he began to walk inside.

At the same time, I turn around to walk away.

My second and last time to walk away from him.

His second and last time to walk away from me.

To her. As man to his wife.
